I'm just wondering here what the general consensus is on when the election became a foregone point. Was there a tipping point in this election where Bush was destined to win, or was it just neck and neck all the way to the finish line?
Or did Kerry start to go under when the Shit Boat Liars started launching their torpedoes? (I just love that line from Elfdart)
Did the missing explosives story narrow the lead?
Bleh, I'm just randomyzing here, trying to start SOMETHING constructive
rather than just going around like a insane lunatic gibbering

What happened was... Bush got his base to vote.. Way more then in 2000 and The "Get out the Vote" for young people did not work... and Now He has won the first Popular vote and Electoral since 1988
Sudden power is apt to be insolent, sudden liberty saucy; that behaves best which has grown gradually.
Like theski said, he got his base to go out and vote. From what I've seen, the rate of voting amoung young people was along the same lines as the last election, proving that giving us young'uns the right to vote really didn't change much
I believe that was the tipping point, since all around my Uni, for example, the place was swamped Pro-Kerry. Had more of us gone out and voted...
But Congratulations.

I told my friends that there was no way Kerry could win and I was right. I didn't know it would be this close. Too bad the Electoral College wasn't discredited further.

It was pretty disconcerting to see so much of the map go red. Made me feel just a teensy bit alienated from a lot of my country. Now I guess the real question is, how many of those states did Bush win because of secular and fiscal issues, and how many for his views on moral issues. Not that we could ever realy know that, but it would be a more telling picture of how much or little I have in common with a big swath of my country.

heathen! without the electoral college we wouldn't have the big pretty map with light up colors. Besides, the popular vote gap is widening and approaching 4 million votes.

Basically, Kerry needed to be something more than just the Un-Bush, and he did not meet that challenge. He also needed to show a lot more drive and wherewithal than that of a haunted tree (loved that characterisation) and he failed there as well. He needed to be more on the attack, and it did not help at all that he let a whole month's worth of orchestrated slander go unanswered. And finally, he utterly failed to spell out his goals for the office and his plans in clear-cut terms, but that's part-and-parcel with not simply being the Un-Bush.

It was discredited in 2000. It wasn't discredited in 2004. That's why it wasn't discredited further.

Yes, four million out of 100,000,000 voters.

What is your point??

On second thought, it was inappropriate to call Bush supporters "rednecks". The correct term is "bible-humping evangelical/fundamentalist asshats." That's who most of them are, anyways.

I am just unclear to your point about the Popular Vote...and discrediting the Electoral college
Electoral College: It would have been hilarious if Bush won it but lost the Electoral votes.
Popular Vote: I'm expressing my disdain for "first past the post" systems.

Yes, and this surely has nothing to do with the 4 million "missing" evangelicals.
