The Democrats need to get on-message, BADLY. What they're doing is NOT enough. The GOP is very very good at playing dirty and the Democrats need to work over the next two, four and six years making sure that the voters KNOW that the degeneration of conditions in the last decade is the GOP'S FAULT.
The next two and four years will determine the next twenty. And right now the next two years look pretty bleak.

Democrats should at least take heart that anything bad that goes on from here and 2008 can be blamed on the Republicans and from the microcasm of the things that have actually gone bad in the past year alone, I think its safe to say that there is more to come. I think that this will produce alot of antipathy towards the Rebublicans over the next four years if the Iraq conflict continues to go on the way it has, if the defecit continues to grow (which will have many, many repcurcussions on the federal, state, and local level), and if more and more tax breaks are given to the wealthy. The key issue is the defecit; if it continues to spiral out of control like it is currently, not even conservative values can save the Republicans in 2008. This, of course, will create a strong back swing and propel the Democrats in all branches of the government in 2008.
I am, in a slight bit, happy that John Kerry did not win (not officially yet, I think), not that I'm not disappointed either, because there was a slew of issues that I reluctantly supported him on. The fault of the Democratic Party, I think, is that they let their dislike of Bush blind them and in the end, they chose a lukewarm canidate, one who they thought could pull as much of the Republican swing votes into their pockets.
Democrats, for the moment, should lick their wounds and bide their time for 2006 and 2008 and pick a canidate that represents the core values of the Democratic Party. The best thing they can do now is to slow the neoconservative moment to ban same sex marriage & civil unions, slow the growth of the deficeit, and keep fighting for the middle class. And for the true Republicans, the ones who embody small government and fiscal conservation, they should fight to take back their party from the religious right wing and restore their party to what it was.
So... anyways. In my humble opinion, the Idiots won today!! Oh well, at least my state stayed Democratic. So, just a stupid question here mister Wong, how do I make my plan to escape to the lovely land of half-legal weed and liberals?

Well ok, back on topic, let's take a look at the dubios bright side for the Democratic Party. Kerry's decision to concede without massive litigation is hopeful actualy. Show's the party can learn from past mistakes, will not alienate supporters or disenfranchise voters in general. Also, now there will be a strong impetus to find a canidate who is not only the lesser of two evils, but a vibrant and viable candidate. Some soul-searching, not to mention rank searching, is deffinately in order for the DNC. Most upsetting for me in this election is that, even with all of the fiery passion and rhetoric, college age voting remained a horridly abismal projected 9%.

It's ironic. Dean arguably made the mistake of assuming that the 18-24 demographic would come out in force for him during the primaries, and that cost him the nomination. Now the Dems have made the exact same mistake, this time with Kerry.
