given how much a large amount of the music community showed their outright hatred for Bush. Given the various unconstituional rules in PATRIOT and PATRIOT II. Let's say Ashcroft decideds to deport one of the outspoken critics of the administration, which one could he get away with getting rid of?

1. Pete Seager: Last of the Depression Era Folk singers/Communist Activist

2. Bob Dylan: Anti-War songs too many to mention, and switched from christian Scientist to Liberal Jedieasim following a bout with cancer. Also one of the key members of Vote for Change.

3. Dixie Chicks: a long standing anti-bush scapegoats. Also a member of Vote for change.

4. Bruce Springsteen: Unrepentant lefty, sued reagan for co-opting his music without his express premission. Along with REM was the founder of Vote for Change

5. REM: makes wierd songs, founded vote for change

6. Ozzy Osbourn (Birtish Citizen, Republican backer, drug addict, and writter of a song called "War Pigs")

7. John Fogarty: Californian, WRitter of "Fortunate Son", and member of vote for change.

It's a tough choice, R.E.M. has accomplished little since '96, every album they've released since then has sucked and failed to produce a single good song. On the other hand the Dixie Chicks are well, you know, I break with the rest of the board and vote for the deportation of R.E.M.

OK, color me stupid, but from what I see people are stating which musician(s) they'd like to get rid of, when the Bear asked which one Dubya could get away with getting rid of. Or did I miss something important?

I fucking HATE the Dixie Chicks. I want something to fall out of the sky and crush them, right in the face. Yes, crush them in the face... I have a violent aversion to country music (feeling phsyically ill and having to leave the room, something about the 'twang'), and the less of them, the better.

there would be huge outcries if he ousted any of the actually popular artists. i somehow doubt anyone would miss the dixie chicks.

Good point, and that still narrows it down to the Dixie Chicks and REM, the rest of them are musical icons who the general population of the US know and more or less care about. Thinking about it some more, Ozzy could be the one to go since his supporters can be characterized as Satanic devil-worshipers and completely discredited.

Colin was probably trying to type "Judaism" but messed up. Robert Allen Zimmerman, AKA Bob Dylan, was Jewish until 1978 when he became a Born Again (booo!), but he's also involved with the Jewish community, IIRC. I'm not sure what he is, officially speaking, these days.

On the thread topic, it would be a physical impossibility for the administration to get away with deporting Dylan or Springsteen. The fan bases behind those two are so tremendous that they're nearly untouchable.

He could probably get rid of Seager, REM, or Fogarty the easiest, because the public is least likely to know or care about them.
