Question for other college students
Were the students in your colleges pro-Kerry? Because here Bush seemed to have more support from the students and it strikes me as bizarre and mildly frightening. A traditionally liberal group of people in a tradionally democrat state supporting Bush. Something's not adding up and I'm trying to figure it out.

No. UGA has the most active College Republicans branch in the country. The majority of the student body is conservative - though I doubt it's a huge majority.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

The students at my college were divided between Nader and the what's-his-name Socialist candidate.
EDIT: I was called a fascist once for supporting Kerry and for not calling for the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.
Have a very nice day.

Re: Question for other college students
No, the ones that voted Kerry tended to be Anti-Bush but not pro-Kerry. And even then they were less than the Bush supporters and Anti-Kerry ones.Trogdor wrote:Were the students in your colleges pro-Kerry?
I can't say for your school. But the trend among American youth tends to run libertarian (fiscal and foreign policy conservative, socially liberal) in terms of political alignment. Kerry was a reluctant social liberal and had poor credentials as a fiscal conservative.Trogdor wrote:Because here Bush seemed to have more support from the students and it strikes me as bizarre and mildly frightening. That and he just came off as a cold fish, a lousy leader, and entirely too out of touch.

US students studying abroad might be a wee bit of a biased sample. And how many were just anti-bush and not pro-Kerry?Admiral Valdemar wrote:Although I'm not a US citizen nor am I in the US, at my political society the other night were a load of US students and not one was pro-Bush. The entire society was pro-Kerry and that made having any unbiased debate a tad hard.

maybe next time, if the student activists spend more time in the voting booth and less time photoshopping Bush headshots onto monkeys while listening to Rage Against the Machine, they might accomplish something.

I have to agree here. It would seem everyone has an opinion, yet, few are prepared to make it count.Col. Anti-Bush for the sake of being?Admiral Valdemar wrote:I don't think any were really anti-Bush for the sake of being. I'll admit, hardly a comprehensive demographic.Stormbringer wrote:

It seems to me that most of the people that would up voting for Kerry are not Kerry supporters but people that saw him as the only option to Bush. I would call that Anti-Bush as opposed to being Pro-Kerry. A lot of people seem to have just held their nose and voted for Kerry.
Definetely ABB at UF. Although there were a very vocal group of Bush supporters that would picket every Friday, just looking around campus with stickers and talking to friends, seemed definetely liberal and against Bush. Also, the numbers agree as this county (Alachua) was one of I believe two north Florida counties going to Kerry. And this county would definetely have been Bush if it weren't for the University here, as I was reading in the newspaper the majority of registered voters in this county are Students, and they are mostly Democrats, but, the rest of the non-University related population are Republicans.

At UCDavis the tone was ABB. And that's why they lost.

Surprisingly, I wound up being one of only two Kerry-voters in my dorm that I knew of - the rest were a bunch of mindless Reps who wouldn't give me a single decent answer as to why they voted for Bush when I pressed them.
It figures I'd wind up getting in a dorm where nine of every ten students are from the south...

You've not met people who are against Bush just because it's in vogue now rather than have a real reason to vote against him? There are plenty that aren't pro-Kerry or anyone else but just hate Bush.Shaidar Haran wrote: Anti-Bush for the sake of being?

Here at my university in Japan, there's actually no Americans currently as exchange students. However, from the native Japanese, when you found one of the rare ones who actually gave a damn, the majority (radical left wing socialists and communists for the most part) were for Kerry. As for the right wing nationalist crowd, most tended to support Bush, more due to the fact that the continuing situation in Iraq gave them more opportunities to push for the expansion of the milita...sorry, the "Self Defence Forces".
