Wasn't even that close. What i can't figure out is how in the hell did Kerry lose ground from Al Gore who was far less appealing a candidate? On a side note, Maryland has 10 electoral votes? Are they stacking people on top of each other down there?

Don't you need 270 electoral votes to win?

I think that map is a prediction, accurate except for Wisconsin. With Wis for Kerry Ohio become the decider. Wis was very close though and a Bush win there would have been as decisive as the Ohio win.

Bush is closing in on Kerry in WI now that absentee and military ballots are being counted. However, I was not aware that Bush was actually in the lead yet.

Doesn't matter to theski who's been spamming up the forum with his Bush gloating for a couple days now.

Final count is:

BUSH 286 KERRY 252

Wisconsin went to Kerry, not Bush.

I count 19--DC isn't a state. Although, I admin that I could have miscounted.

BTW, this doesn't bode well for the Democrates. Overtime, I suspect that there will be fewer and fewer no Republican senators from the blue states, and fewer Democrates from the southern states. The Repubs could soon have a long-term filibuster proof majority in the Senate.

*snickers* You guys both miscounted. Only 18 states went for Kerry. 32 voted for Bush. 95% of the counties, nationally, voted for Bush.

The Democrats can do okay in national elections that depend more on popular votes, like the House of Representatives, but unless they significantly reform their images, they will lose elections in the Senate and the governor positions since they have fewer states on their side. The Dems are simply not competitive in the South, anymore, which means that the Republicans will be able to dominate Congress, and likely means that they'll be able to dominate the Courts unless the Democrats expand their base--something they're proving unable to do.

Well, it's 19 if you go by electoral vote areas. Where DC has three. Or something like that.

You can make it even more if you break up Maine into its constituent districts and such, but only 18 full states actually voted for Kerry.
