This only seems to refute the "Palpatine gets killed by Sidious" hypothesis.

And without considering Occam's Razor, it still places the Sidious = Palpatine in a sketchy point.

Judging by Spanky's post, there is something more obvious, anyone care to enlighten me?

How do you get that?
'Palpatine caused himslef to be elected President of the Republic' Amidala had a hand in that remember? TPM, and Jar Jar gave him all those 'emergency' powers in AotC .

'Once secure in office he declared himself Emperor' this is unambiguous, the afore mentioned President, declares himself Emperor.

I like your Vader lines in one sense, but I don't like them in the sense that they don't make Obi-Wan out to be nothing but an old fucking liar trying to get his son to kill his father. 8)

As for "Bad Ideas for Episode III", there are a few contenders:

1. "Palpatine and Sidious aren't the same person!"

2. "Palpatine is Anakin's father!"

3. "Boba Fett kills Mace Windu!" [I.E. going out like a bitch]- no offense, NecronLord :)

4. "General Grievous is Darth Maul!"

That's all I can think of for the moment.

Humm. Bah.

It's not my fault Lucas made Boba a fucking kid! I can quite easily see the older Boba smiting a jedi if the conditions were right. Let's face it, only sheer good luck prevented Mace from having his face melted off by the flamethrower in AotC.

Besides, he's got to disintegrate someone.

Apparently not ... unfortunately. Would've liked to see a disintergration in SW.

The shot where Mace is raising his sabre over his head? I bet thats in palpys office. Its clearly on Courscant and I think what little we can see of the imediate area suggests Palpys office.

I bet this is either his death or zapping. I mean look at it. He is wildly raising his sabre back over his head, leaving his entire body exposed to attack. Probably for some dramatic but stupid moment Lucas loves where a main character makes a bloody stupid move for the plot.

SIgh.

*EDIT*

Oh and tell me. The bit where Yoda ignites his sabre...does that look like the crumpled form of a Royal Guard next to him?

Perhaps he's just beaten Palpy down, about to go for the kill shot. Then Boba Fett appears and shoots him?

Nah, look at the lower-left hand side of the screen when he raises his 'sabre: There's clearly a black cloak showing; Hence whoever he's fighting (Palpidious) is standing.

Perhaps he's stumbling back? Or lost his weapon?

Yes, but Jackson and I may have different ideas of the meaning of that. :P

That's pretty much the revealing 'secret' of his identity that's been talked about and debated. It's backwards from how most people assume Sidious is Palpatine's secret identity/pseudonym, like he's a superhero or something.
I kind of like this idea, personally. It's "Force Facelift." Palpy was always an ugly guy with weird red eyes, he just uses the Force to "assume a pleasing shape" (like the demon he is).

Is Anakin's "red eye" a symptom of being a Dark Side dude? Maul had 'em too...

Sort of reminds me of the weird blue eyes that the demonically possessed had in "The Exorcist" or the eyes of the zombies in the remake of Night of the Living Dead. In this case, now you see 'em, now you don't (as the mood takes you). Maybe the Dark Side is like Melange... you get enough of it in your system and your eyes change.

The eyes are the windows to the soul right? And your soul is all yellowed and fiery and twisted to show the evil inside. Anakin had nice eyes when Luke took his mask off...

We'll have to see if there is anything to this theory in the actual film, but it's certainly an intruiging possibility!

*Then again maybe Lucas is taking a hand from David Lynch and just forgetting to color in everyone's eye's in every scene. ; ) [/joke]

Or maybe Palpy just has a good makeup team, wears contacts and brushes his teeth a lot while in the public eye, then cuts loose when nobody is looking. Like a werewolf shaving all the time so nobody notices..!
My theory on the whole Prequel Palpatine/Sidious vs. ROTJ Palpatine is that Palpatine is channeling huge ammounts of Force energy into preventing the Jedi from detecting him; this explains Mace's revelation in AOTC that the Jedi's ability to use the Force has diminished.

But it also means that, though he is a Sith Lord, it's wrecking tremednous damage on his body; the Palpatine of AOTC, even though it is ten years later, is more withered and ancient-looking than his TPM counterpart. Once the Jedi are eliminated, in theory, he can let go of it. But by holding onto all of this power for so long, it has become a narcotic to Palpatine/Sidious and he can't let go of it, thus causing the further decay of his body up until ESB/ROTJ.

Of course, it's also likely due to age; Palpatine is at least in his late 50's, early 60's as of TPM, with an additional 36 years until ROTJ. And as Yoda stated, "When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not!"
Yeah, I'm intruiged. The EU explanation is that the Dark Side (or at least Palpatine's addiction to it) "super ages" him, in record time, leading to his appearance in ROTJ.

The prequels thus far lead me to suspect it was simply "normal" aging combined with the stress of office and a little (unhealthy) bad hygiene or possibly disease. Ditto for Anakin.

However this trailer throws both of those into doubt for me. We have Anakin and Palpatine looking "normal" in one scene and then "nutso" in another (Palpatine far much more so). Basically Palpster goes from old looking guy and then does a Dorian Gray on us into the guy we know and love from 24 years later, cackling like crazy with his rotten teeth.

Granted, the movie itself could take place over a span of time, or there could be some "shocking" moment to reveal things, so it's all up in the air as far as I'm concerned, but I have my pet hunches. ;)

Palpatine as "Sideous" in the prequels thus far doesn't look that crazy, but then all we see is him speaking calmly with only his chin revealed. A little pale, but nothing major (NEVER THE EYES!!).

And how do these relate to Palpatine and Sidious being different/same person?

If you mean that the canon novel descriptions are literally what happened, then of course my 1st hypothesis of Sidious killing Palpatine is refuted, but how about the 2nd one, with Palpatine killing Sidious?

On elected to be president, up until AOTC there isn't much evidence showing Sidious directly manipulating Amidala and Jar Jar in the process. He was on the backstage doing things like getting the Federation to attack Naboo. This could be hypothesized that Sidious and Palpatine are working together. One at the Senate, the other on the backstage.

On the part of declaring himself Emperor, it doesn't say much either, in my hypothesis Palpatine could kill Sidious anytime in EPIII, before or after he declares himself Emperor.

Of course this raises the question that how Palpatine would get his Sith powers, so far my guess is Sidious' spirit or some stuff is absorbed by Palpatine.

That demon dude, I would never think that was Sidious. His robes are brown and the Emperor never displayed teeth like that. Watch ROTJ. Even when he's pissed and angrily frying Luke he just looks like a shriveled old man.

And please, I am trying to remain Spoiler free for this movie so if there is an explanation that involves a spoiler I prefer you just tell me that it will be explained in the movie.
