We really ought to show some respect for the man. Anyone who can lead for forty years deserves at least token praise for his gumption and cajones. But anyways, a preemptive moment of silence for Yassir Arafat <Takes bite out of breakfast pastry.> Mmmfmnt mf iiilnse mmver. <Translation: Moment of silence over.>
Going on this preemptive reaction to his impending death thing, the assclown quotient over there has just decreased by all of about 1%. Sure Yassar Arafat was about as stubborn and as obstructionist as half the Israelis he dealt with, but really, the Palestinian state is something of an anarchist basket-case. Lots of assclowns in power and he had only nominal control over most of them. And that doesn't begin to take into consideration the Israeli assclowns, most of whom are quite content to keep the Palestinians locked up behind barbed wire and tanks.
So really, what effect will Arafat's death have on the situation? The most likely answer, not much, if anything. Not in the long run. Sure, it could look real rosy in the short term as people try to "come together" after his death. That, or it'll look really ugly when the Israelis get the blame for his death (and you know it's coming, just you wait.)
