That actually is one of the main theories going around, that Palpatine's mastered a ancient Sith technique that not only cloaks his Force presence, but also alters his physical form. In other words, the Palpatine of ROTJ has always been Palpatine's true form. Evidence from the main site on Ian McDirmiad's makeup and the Sidious vs. Yoda clip from the trailer agree with that.

Yeah. The one I have is great, but if there's an even higher resolution one I'd love that, too.

Yeah. The one I have is great, but if there's an even higher resolution one I'd love that, too.

I'm still not sure if there is one, but I'd heard people talking about a 15 MB version. I'm still looking for it on P2P, but no luck so far.

There are 3 sizes; 320x127, 480x206 and 'Extra large', which doesn't appear to be out yet.

It's apparently because Yoda and Palpatine go at it. Palpatine eventually wins, but just barely, and the raw Force powers being flung around is what deforms him during the fight.

If the Dark Side has side effects on peoples appearances, he'd still be the nice old man at the beginning and wrinkle off later. The appearances could be falsified with SW tech.

Sorry for late comment but IMO they could still love Palpatine despite the ROTJ/ROTS appearance, and I'm not sure faking appearance in public (or hiding from publicity) would be necessary to keep "nice old man" image and/or to be loved by the citizen. I mean, Mother Theresa & Mahatma Gandhi weren't pretty either, were they?

I believe it´been said by the crew for all the three new films that Palpatine and Sidious are one and the same.

I even think you see where Maul and Sidious are talking in TPM. It was filmed behind the Palpatine´s quarters-set. (On "The Beginning" doc)

And Lucas added the Palpatine/Anakin-scene in AOTC to show how close they´ve gotten in the last ten years, with Palpatine secretly guiding him. Thus it will be harder for him to resist Palpatine, when he reveals his plans and look in ROTS.

Having Palpatine kill Sidious is also entirely implausible, since only Sidious would be a Sith in this scenario and would kill Palpatine in an instance.

Hooiii, only the DVDs as far as I can remember. I believe Lucas continuously mixes Palpatine, The Emperor and Sidious when he talks about stuff in the movies. He also mixes Stormtroopers and Clonetroopers, so I think it´s safe to say he´s serious about it. I need to watch the commentaries again though, just to be sure.

Plus, all the insiders (the credible ones, with actual inside info) have never said anything about Palpatine/Anakin vs. Sidious, and have all supported the idea they´re one and the same.

still like my own pet theory the best. sidious is hiding and using special clones that lack force powers to do the manipulation of the senate for him. that would easily explain why the jedi never noticed any force powers coming from palpatine as well as why sidious looked nasty and wrinkled yet palpatine was relatively young in comparison.

Luke Skywalker disguised his appearance especially his face with the force so no one could recognize him in the Black Fleet trilogy, when he was walking around on a nameless New Republic world. I believe Palpatine has done the same to his appearance as he has done with his force powers. Hidden them from even the most adept Jedi.
