How/where did you get your sig/avatar?

Avatar: Dordary from Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram. This is actually made from a very cool 3D Japanese fanart of the Dordary standing in flames. It's a closeup of the mecha's head.
1: My custom text from SpaceBattles. It's from a old joke from another board I frequent, where the rumor has mutated to include Akane Tendo. I now carry the nickname "Akanepuff."
2: It's a classic Working Designs-style quote from the game Silhouette Mirage for the PSOne. It's a Treasure game, you know what to do.
3: My favorite quote from the Battletech animated series.

My avatar comes from a drawing of mine. Its the main character in a fanfic that I am currently wrestling with.
My sig (which always changes pending on my inclination)is:
"I always had my suspicions that you were no mere mortal, but I never thought that you were actually a cat..."
From Trigun: Nicholas Wolfwood commenting on the disappeared Vash from... creep, can't remember the episode name... guess I'll have to watch the whole series again....
"Every man who had a statue put up of him was some kind of S.O.B. or another..."
Malcolm Renolds, the captian of Serenity on the Fox show Firefly
He was commenting to James about the small mud community that worshipped James
Brotherhood of the Monkey: Nonchalant Disgruntled Monkey
If you can't tell, then I think its time you took a long walk off a short pier while wearing very heavy chains

Alas I became a member of the Anti-Troll Jyhad... let the heads roll

My avatar is an animated GIF with both the (very popular) Paul Kidby Librarian of Discworld fame, and the animated version of Silent Bob (who I kind of look like). Old avatars included the One Ring and the Eye of Sauron.
My sig, line by line:
"Rob "Uncle Roby" Dalton | http://daltonator.net | "Always in motion is the future." --Yoda"
Name (including future uncle status ), website plug, and one of my absolute favorite Star Wars quotes; I don't worry about the future. I worry about the present.
"[ BotM | ATJ | Erin go bragh | Snoochies boochies! | Today's Experiment...Failed ]"
In order, declaring my membership to both the Brotherhood of the Monkey and the Anti-Troll Jihad; Erin go Bragh means Ireland Forever (I'm part Irish), Snoochies Boochies is one of Jay's taglines (Jay from Jay and Silent Bob); the last appears at the end of each episode of Excel Saga, the most insane anime ever made.
"In the land of Mordor where the Shadows lie..."
From Tolkien, of course.

I'm still looking for an Avatar (suggestions anyone?). As for my signature the first one is from the Nineth Chronicle of the Black Company: Soldiers Live, I beleive it's the last line in the book. Now the other sig I have no idea where it's originally from, nor can I remember where I found it exactly. It was either at some war website or in my e-mail.
Soldiers Live. And wonder why.
"It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, Who has given us the freedom to
demonstrate.
It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the
flag."
