If you're gay or unwed then you're not fit for teaching...

Post by Next of Kin »

...according to South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint.
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Some gay organizations want an apology from U.S. Senate candidate Jim DeMint, who said during a debate that homosexuals should not be teaching in the state's public schools.

"I don't think they should," DeMint, a Republican, said during Sunday's debate with Democrat Inez Tenenbaum.

DeMint, a third-term congressman, said during the debate that government should not endorse particular behaviors. "We need the folks that are teaching in schools to represent our values," he said.

On Tuesday, DeMint added another group to his list of people who shouldn't teach in public schools: single pregnant women with live-in boyfriends. In an interview with the Aiken Standard for Wednesday editions, DeMint talked about a higher moral standard for those who teach children.

"I would have given the same answer when asked if a single woman, who was pregnant and living with her boyfriend, should be hired to teach my third grade children," DeMint said. "I just think the moral decisions are different with a teacher."

I'm more disturbed by this asshat winning than Bush, frankly. I predict years of national embarassment from this douchebag.

Wasn't this already posted?

Anyway, I'd like to see him get away with saying, teachers should represent our values, therefore they should all be white. Then again it's South Carolina. :P

As they used to say in the Ginsu ads, WAIT! THERE'S MORE!

DeMint also thinks women and girls who have been raped should be forced to bear the rapist's baby. So according to this mutton-headed jackoff, a single woman working as a teacher in the public schools who gets raped should not only have to carry the byproduct of the rape to term, she should be fired from her job as well.

Tom Coburn was elected in Oklahoma in spite of saying that girls in school should not be allowed to go to the restroom in groups because of possible lesbianism. He also called for killing abortion doctors and women who use their services.

The other turd from Oklahoma is Jim Inhofe, who as a state senator, called for the assassination of George McGovern and recently was seen in the U.S. Senate gloating over the anal rape of prisoners at Abu Ghraib.

That's the GOP for you, ladies and gentlemen!

i'd really wish idiots like this would get it through their heads that schools aren't soapboxes for pushing their own fucking agendas onto kids. so it shouldn't fucking matter what personal beliefs the teacher has.

Until politicians realize that the same should hold true for them, revolting filth like this will continue to be spewed.

I've read this thread about seven times now, but am only commenting now because every time I read it, I get so fucking livid I can't think coherently enough to write up anything other than insults and venting.

Actually, that is the logical conclusion of all anti-abortion arguments. He is just being logically consistent; if one accepts the premise that a fetus has full human rights from the moment of conception, then it is murder, and you cannot murder a rapist's innocent child in retaliation for his crime, so if they are to be consistent with their logic, even rape victims should not be allowed to have abortions. That's what's so pathetic about anti-abortionists who wish to make exceptions for rape; by doing so, they acknowledge that it's not really murder, otherwise this exception would be totally unacceptable. And if it's not really murder, then it shouldn't be categorically outlawed for any woman, regardless of whether she was raped.

I would actually welcome it if every anti-abortionist was honest and logically consistent by declaring that rape victims should be forced to carry their rapists' offspring to term, because then the moderates would be driven away by revulsion against their platform rather than being swayed by its various cloying sophistries as is currently the case.

Wow elfdart, nice ad infinitum. You know, for every one of these fuckwads in the GOP there is an Olympia Snowe or a Lincoln Chafee. But go on generalizng and cling to your notion that every GOP member is a troglyte.

Humm... I see. So, remind me, what's the moral difference between a stable pairing with a child, and a married pair with a child? Legal recognition. Humm. How does that affect values? The sight of god? Humm... Civil Marriage.

In essence, he may as well have stamped, "My idea of morality is totally based on religion" on his head.

Bah! That's going a bit far! I've never seen anything suggesting Gondor banned homosexuality!

Really? The Chafee/ Snowe/ Rockefeller wing of the Republikkklan Party is fizzling out faster than the Dixiecrats. In fact, there are WAY more Dixiecrats in the GOP today than there are Rockefeller Republicans. Let's leave aside DeMint, Coburn and Inhofe. Most GOP Senators openly advocate discriminating against homosexuals, treating them as third-class citizens and forcing women to give birth even when it endangers their (the women's) health.

What's more, any Republican who thinks a man like Giuliani, Pataki, McCain or others who aren't fetus fetishists will ever get a presidential nomination need to change out their bongwater. The Fetus Christers will support someone else, force a Damascus Conversion (which Giuliani is trying for), or stay home on election day.

Yeah, we're so backward here that we keep electing such racist, isolationist, redneck hicks such as Richard Lugar and Evan Bayh to the Senate.

Perhaps that idiot DeMint's victory was due to the fact that the Democrat candidate was out of touch with the majority of SC voters on issues such as gun control and unionization, not that the people of SC are all homophobic bigots. There are reasons why people vote Republican other than being anti-abortion and anti gay marriage.

I'm sure he was also helped by Bush's coattails just as much as Tenebaum was hurt by Kerry's lack of coattails in the state (Bush carried SC 58% to 41%)

As far as Oklahoma is concerned, the state's strong (66% of the vote) support for Bush didn't translate into such a large margin of victory for Coburn (who won only 53% of the vote). Hell, the independent peace candidate got 6% if the vote. The shocking thing is that a lot of GWB voters didn't vote for Coburn. Perhaps they looked beyond the party label and saw that he was a nutcase.

The Democrat might have won if Kerry had shown any coattails, but he didn't have any.
