Victory Class over Coruscant?

Post by Icehawk »

As most should know this is from the new SW.com databank on General Grievous.

I know its small but to me it does not appear to be a Venator class because it lacks the back portion and the indentation on the sides. To me this looks much more like the traditional SD design.

Will likely have to wait for DVD of some form.

As is, it does have the shape.

He´s talking about the Victory-class, the Imperials older, shorter, less attractive brother. :P

It has the distinct lines to it.

Though for me it looks closer the ISD...just no head prongs on the bridge tower is my bit.

Looks like just another Venator (what does that mean?). I can easily see the "ramp" that leads up to the bridge on that class. The bridge itself looks odd, though.

Venator = Hunter. Latin.

Anyway, that's too blury to make out. It doesn't look like a Venator, though, judging from what I've seen of the Venator.

The ship in question does in fact not match the profile of an ISD, but rather a shorter, stockier ship. The Victory however fits reasonably well with the profile, particularly considering the apparent camera angle.

While do know that both VSD1s and VenSD are clone wars desings it's impossible (IMHO) tell which one that ship is. If it has no tail then it's probaly an VSD1, if it has either a Venator or a Acclamtor

The more I look at it, the more it looks like just another Venator. Sorry, guys.

Maybe the ship at the end with the Imperial style bridge will be a Victory? (Or an Imperial class, just to screw up continuity :P)

What's the bet that some budding fan will edit one in when they're making the DVD, we already saw the planetary shield being touched up, when, lets face it - there was really no particular reason to put it in as it will be ignored by 90% of viewers. In the same way that we saw an Action VI freighter in AotC, maybe some graphical artist will sneak in a VSD or a Z-95 somewhere.

If they can add a tiny x-wing being chased by the TIE Advanced X1 and two TIE fighters in the busy Coruscant skyways, they can take the time to fill in one single fucking Victory in a busy space battle. They can if they want to.

Yes, and he's asking whether or not that does this confirm the thought, directly from the movie before the DVD edits come in.

I doubt we're going to have people screaming about the Enterprise nor the Asgard in RoTS.

Considering how the shadows lay on the ship, it looks like it would most likely be a Victory.

IIRC, they said that there weren't going to be VSDs in RotS, so they're more than likely Venator-class ships.

Even so, it doesn't look like a Venator.

And just because mHidalgo said during pre-production and production that there would be no VSDs, ILM could have put one in the background if they felt like it as long as GL either; a) doesn't notice, or, b) doesn't care.

There were at least two sceens in the teaser with Star Destroyers in them. To me they looked like ISDs, and I see not real motivation for Lucas to put VSDs in his new film.

Well, the basis for the VSD was an early design for the ISD prior to 1977. And, like I said, ILM could just put it in there as an easter egg, GL has no reason to not want it in the film. And I think it's pretty clear that that's not an ISD, its dimensions are different.

I have checked it thoroughly, and the ship in question matches a Victory very well. However, it is possible that it is a Venator. It takes a particular angle to pull off a likeness, but it can be done. The VSD is still a better match from the low-quality materials I have to work with though.

Also, with seeing the odd double bridge of a Venator in the foreground behind Greivous, you can tell that the UFO in the background has a more "conventional" Star Destroyer bridge design.

I'm not sure if this was brought up in the other thread, but this is what I'm looking at from the Teaser. Unlike the marketing art, this scene will almost certainly be in the movie.

As you can see, there are two Star Destroyer looking vessels in the backgroupd. You may begin speculation as to what class they belong to.

The one on the right looks like a Venator from the aft, can't tell on the other one.
