My best friend got involved with an abusive jerkoff more than a year ago. He hits her, he emotionally and mentally abuses her, he's a drug dealer, a part time Jesus-freak, has spent his whole adult life in and out of jail, and introduced her to cocaine. He's a 32 year old waste of carbon who's going to kill her or get her killed one day. She got pregnant, was suddenly horrified by the thought that she was going to be bound to him for the rest of her life. Then she miscarried, which was sad, but suddenly she wasn't tied to him anymore. So what did she do? She stayed with him.

Anyone care to explain what the fuck women who stay with guys like this are thinking? Or, alternately, what kind of sick fuck beats on a girl (especially one a full foot shorter and 100 pounds lighter)?

(by the way, YB, you've got more self control than I do. if it were my sister, I'd probably have made it worse trying to deal with the situation myself. unfortunately, it's up to your sister to extract herself from her situation and the law to deal with her boyfriend, neither of which is a certainty, as you're probably too well aware of by now).

I think a big problem is that too many people are taught to rely on appeals to authority--someone says something, so it must be true right??? The asshole tells her he loves her and she believes him. He says he won't beat her again and she believes him. Seriously, everytime I hear about one of these cases, invariably the abused woman proclaims, "But he said he loved me", "he says he'll stop" etc. :(

It's called a cycle. Hey YB, sorry to butt into your personal life, but did you have an abusive father? This is a common thing; women in abusive families tend to go for abusive guys...time and time again. It's a vicious cycle....leaving one wife-beater for another...

That would be stepdad #1, or husband 2 of 3 for my mom.

My sister's father isn't bad, he's actually a very good decent person, (He feels incredable guilt/remorse over the war he was drafted into). However the sort of abusive or codependat behaviour runs very rampant in my mother's side of the family.

This actually scares me a lot. after going to AA meetings for several years (I have all of the side effects I just don't drink alcohol in excess), I vowed not to have children because I am afraid that the insanity and violence would continue beyond me.

Wow. Wow. and Wow. But I think that this may at least be a *possibility* of why your sister stayed with him...

Thus also explaining Sheppard's comments about keeping children as far away from my family as possible.

When I first read the title of this thread, I began to wonder. When I saw it was written by you, I REALLY began to wonder. Then when I read this, I wanted to put my fist through the wall. People like that need to die horribly. I say we grab Shep, head out there and have us a good 'ole coon hunt. I'm sure there are enough of us here that can find nice places to dump the bodies where nobody will find them.

*hugs* Keep safe, YB.
Desert out here in Arizona. Hiiiiiigh desert. Nothing but cactuses to hear him scream, and scream he will. I've been wanting to break in my new boots. Who gets dibs on the wishbone?

Oooh... Can I feed him to Tassie Devils? They eat EVERYTHING... Better than pigs for disposing of corpses.

Fuck you too Hyperion. Your damn lucky that didn't hit anyone. Tell me, if you got hit by a two foot shaft of steel would you say "Oh. Must be accidental collateral damage." That's a dangerous weopon. If you want to play with it, why not go off into the woods where there aren't any people around. Use your fucking head.

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might if they screamed all the time for no good reason.
