For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see,
Saw the Vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be;
Saw the heavens fill with commerce, argosies of magic sails,
Pilots of the purple twilight dropping down with costly bales;
Heard the heavens fill with shouting, and there rain'd a ghastly dew
From the nations' airy navies grappling in the central blue;
Saw the Vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be;
Saw the heavens fill with commerce, argosies of magic sails,
Pilots of the purple twilight dropping down with costly bales;
Heard the heavens fill with shouting, and there rain'd a ghastly dew

Hell, I know it's a joke, I'm just commenting on how horrible it would be if it wasn't a joke. Tree hugging hippie socialists running one country while redneck fundie crusaders run the other...with absolutely nowhere for those of us who stand in the middle of the political spectrum to go.frigidmagi wrote:It's a fucking joke for God's sake untwist your damn panties!The worst nightmare imaginable...

Frankly, the Jesusland and Emperor Dubya stuff is both vastly overdone. Yet, somehow, I doubt either will leave. Curses upon the easily amused.
And that map looks like something I threw up yesterday.

I thought this one with the use of purple shades as well as red & blue was the probably the best representation of the US during the election.

aerius: I'll vote for you if you sleep with me.
Lusankya: Deal!
Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

That map does put paid to all the assholes spouting their 'Two Americas' rhetoric about the 'progressive' coasts and the 'reactionary' heartland, though.
The thing that's being overlooked is that Bush won by almost 4 million votes. Not a huge majority (and nowhere near enough to claim a mandate), but a majority nonetheless.
To get that nationwide majority, a lot of people in the 'blue' states voted for him.
Similarly, even here in Indiana (which last went Democrat for President in 1964), Kerry got 39% of the vote*.
Would this kind of bullshit even be an issue if we had a direct popular vote instead of the misleading 'red/blue' state maps?
*Interestingly enough, our Democratic Senator Evan Bayh won with 62% (to Bush's 61% margin) of the vote. Support for Bush didn't translate into being brainless straight ticket punching automata in this state.

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

I don't know what's scarier... the fact that so much of the midWest was straight red, or the fact that I could pick out WV from the muddy purples.Tsyroc wrote:I thought this one with the use of purple shades as well as red & blue was the probably the best representation of the US during the election.

Nitram, slightly high on cough syrup: Do you know you're beautiful?
Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

Now does anyone else have an electoral map even more screwed up-looking than that one with the shades of purple and county size based on population?
