Outfoxed - Must see Documentary

Post by Stravo »

I saw the documentray OutFoxed tonight. It is an hour long documentary that focuses on the tactics, motives and overarching motivations of Fox News. A brilliant Expose on O'Reilly and the way he handles guests and just outright lies about what people say on his show. It uses a plethora of Fox newsclips to show how things work on choosing guests, using Whitehouse talking points and being more 'fair' to Bush and his administration. A chuckle inducing analysis of Sean Hannity vs. Colmes. (Colmes is described as Squirrely looking) Disturbing instances of memos basically saying "Stay positive on Iraq no matter what." Heavy use of ex employees who are still really frightened of the company and what it can do to their reputations. Don't miss the parade of clips of O'Reilly telling people to 'shut up' after a clip of him stating unequivocally that he only told one person in 6 years to shut up.

I strongly recommend watching this movie. It can really open your eyes to what most of us have always suspected about this network and its motives.
Wherever you go, there you are.

I saw this documentary a few months ago. It's wonderful. They have interviews from a few former FOX employees, as well as the plethora of clips from FOX itself Stravo mentioned.

Hm. Not too long ago, a clip of O'Reilly telling Jeremy Glick to shut up was linked to here on SDN. That clip was a part of this movie.

Control Room seems somewhat similar. It's supposed to be good too.

Saw this documentary and it only further angered me to see how such a news network can be so blantly distortive and get away with it. They've been getting more and more viewers and I'm afraid that soon people won't really know what the truth is anymore. I've noticed that in the past few years, all cable news networks have been slowly conforming to this one format, similar to Fox News. Why can't people see?

Dammit, I could've seen this on the day of the election but the society showed F9/11 again.

Saw it last night. Very good. Better than F9/11, IMO. Somewhat fightening to think about how much of the media Rupert Murdoch controls. I did like when Glick was talking about timing O'Reilly with a stopwatch to figure out how long he'd have to make his point 8) .

What's so bad about Reuters? Surely you can't compare it to FAUX News.

Shep is just employing a classic American right-wing Golden Mean fallacy: assuming that the truth must be somewhere between two arbitrarily chosen opponents, thus implying that whatever he's currently targeting is just as extreme as FOXNews is.

In reality I'd say the best counterpoint to FOXNews is Al-Jazeera, but right-wingers don't like the (however accurate) comparison between FOXNews and Al-Jazeera.

How delicious.

I've never seen anything to make me doubt Reuters, AP or other such independent organisations. Murdoch's works are typically slanted, but FOX is more so than Sky News and The Times has no real link to either of them.

Don't forget that FOXNews is looking for high ratings, so they'll air whatever sensationalist crap that'll get viewers and advertising dollars. Reuters isn't on television, but like AP they provide news stories to every media outlet. There's no real reason for them to deliberately slant stories since they still get revenue from the networks they sell to.

Just read Reuter's fawning pro-palestinian coverage and you'll understand
the al-Reuters nickname.

I dont give a shit about the individual companies, the act that they can present news as factual when they are lieing and be legally protected is a very good demonstration why companies should not be considered individuals and why a universal free speach law really isnt worth it.
