Jeebus, can't someone stop this man?
"Oh no, oh yeah, tell me how can it be so fair
That we dying younger hiding from the police man over there
Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"

"I think it’s the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

The Democrats seem to have taken up crying like girly men when not being sodomized like prison bitches by Karl Rove. They lost the election to the most despised and stupid men to have held the office since Nixon by one of the largest margins in recent history. So I'd have to say, no, probably not.Gandalf wrote:Jeebus, can't someone stop this man?

This actually poses a serious question: How far can the Evangelicals take it in the United States? Granted they may be able to do massive and not easily repairable damage to the government. Granted their infection of education will create an even larger generation of rabid ignoramouses. But isn't there a point when even the faggot-hating, gun-loving hillbilly truck driver goes "Whoa there, you can't take my girlie mags!"?
This has to burn itself out somewhere, the only question is how much damage it will do before then.

The question isn't how far can they take it, it's will they be allowed to. The hardcore few will take it all the way if they can. It's going to be the opposition that determines that and right they're not doing so well. The balance is close enough, and the damage more of lip service than actual devotion. The problem is the younger generation hasn't done shit and the older generation is, well, gutless too often.Lazy Raptor wrote:This actually poses a serious question: How far can the Evangelicals take it in the United States? It's a nice hope but it's not going to just burn. These are people that are insanely devoted and don't take no for an answer.Lazy Raptor wrote:This has to burn itself out somewhere, the only question is how much damage it will do before then.

Well, if we give all our money to the ACLU...Stormbringer wrote:The Democrats seem to have taken up crying like girly men when not being sodomized like prison bitches by Karl Rove. Seriously, though it will not be stopped no matter who's in the White House because, if the past is of any indication, the BHEFAs will stack the local school boards and governments with themselves. So, the ACLU actually is our only hope

So then what? If the fundamentalist movement in America reaches critical mass, and we continue to become even more alienated, ignorant and backward the potential impacts on science and education could drag the country down. A superpower that's now merely a nuissance to the rest of the world could become a genuine threat that must be dealt with. Would a stupid, poor America that's becoming increasingly stupid and poor quietly become a third-world nation, or launch one last, desperate crusade?Stormbringer wrote:The question isn't how far can they take it, it's will they be allowed to. Well, hopefully it won't get that far. The problem is the opposition has just been gutless, lazy, or stupid. I'm sick to death with the crybaby mentality when they've done so little and screwed up so much.Lazy Raptor wrote:So then what?
It's not as easy to do as you think. The US could still be a major power even as a fundy state. The thing about US fundamentist is they're not regressive in the same way as in Afghanistan or such. They don't object to material technology in the same way. It's tinkering with ourselves that gets to be the problem; and even then it's a hell of a selective thing.Lazy Raptor wrote:If the fundamentalist movement in America reaches critical mass, and we continue to become even more alienated, ignorant and backward the potential impacts on science and education could drag the country down.
To get us to the state of a third world country would take deliberate effort. We might be stuck playing catch up but the US isn't so badly off as to wind up another Middle East or Africa.
Well, the chances of it coming to the US being a third world country are slim to nil. But if we did it would probably be pretty messy.Lazy Raptor wrote:A superpower that's now merely a nuissance to the rest of the world could become a genuine threat that must be dealt with.
