According to the article he was 74. In Canada once you reach a certain age you have to have an exam either every 2 years or yearly depending on the Province. That determines whether you are medically fit to drive.

I think it should be on a indvidual level. i.e. tests every couple years, because some older people are just fine driving. For instance my grandma is 80 and she drives just fine to the grocery store and post office, and it would be bullshit if the goverment blanketly said all 80 year olds could not drive.

Agreed. Locally (BC) they only randomly test after a certain age unless your doctor reports you. Doctors must report certain conditions - strokes for certain - since these automatically revoke your license and force you to take a special course (written, driving, etc...) to get your license back. Had a great aunt who drove until her mid-90s - she was fine, better than most teenagers. But others are sheer hazards. Test them to minimize these tragedies.
