From what I've heard, if ANYBODY Palestinian is seen by most other Palestinians as a martyr(or hero), the funeral is held in secret at night to avoid crowds in the thousands. This isn't THAT unusual, just slightly larger.

Well wasn't Khomeini's funeral also considered a world record for the largest gathering of people at a single spot with something like 2 million attending? You'd kind of expect that sort of thing to get out of control.
