My Background
Since I have become a mod, some people have been asking me who I am and what I have done with my life so far. I'd rather post this, rather than explain it to multiple people, so here it is:
I grew up in the Bay Area. Then I went to college. After I graduated, I got a job for the Associated Press. I was stationed in Saudi Arabia, before being "promoted" to Israel after a reporter quit as a result of being fired on by BOTH sides while covering a riot there. I lived there for several months before being moved again to Switzerland. I lived there for about a month, and was then offered a job working at a Southern California news station. My job there was to work with the teleprompter (that thing that tells the anchors what to say). Yes, anchor people really are as stupid as everyone says, though I didn't find my anchors to be abusive to anyone. Anyway, that job took some getting used to but I eventually became good at it, so that they let me cover some stories for their affiliated newspaper at the same time (earning me extra money ). I worked at that job for about a year and a half.
In the meantime, one of my friends from college had become a Vice Principal at a High School in the Central Valley. He offered me a position as an English Teacher there. Even though the pay for teachers is less, I accepted the job because he was a friend of mine and he told me it was easy to teach at the local community college at the same time, so I got two teaching positions (one technically a professorship). California let me earn my credential while I was working, so that wasn't even a problem.
As soon as I got my credential, I was promoted to teaching advanced Juniors and Seniors for the school in English. Those were my favorite classes because the people there were intelligent and many of them actually wanted to be there. That was a great job, but the Principal of the school had some problems. He wanted to make it so that anyone could become an advanced student if they had a note from their parents. In one year, my average class size rose from 23 students/class to more than thirty five. Some of the new students spoke very little English, and many were largely illiterate. My friend (the VP), resigned in protest of the decision after he realized what had happened. I told the Principal that I would be leaving, too, but that I wanted to graduate the Juniors that I was teaching, then. He wasn't very happy with me, and made me teach some remedial classes for him during their Senior years (NOT fun), but he acquiesced and I was able to stay on to see my final years' students graduate. I then resigned in a belated protest of his decision regarding advanced students, and went looking for another job.
I was offered a post as a copy-editor of a local newspaper (I had to make sure there were no typo's in the articles), but was quickly promoted to a slightly better post as a low-editor, where I still had to catch typo's, but I was also now responsible for managing a few reporters. One of the reporters was my current fiancee, who was later promoted to an editorship after one of the senior editors resigned. I asked her to marry me when she was still a reporter (I was then a staff editor), and she has since been promoted (NOT by me--I'm not in charge of that stuff) to a junior editorship. I now live in the SF Bay Area, and really enjoy working in the editing room.
That's my amazing life, so far. I'd be happy to answer questions, but I will NOT give out names (for fear that my employers might come back and sue me), or you can post your background for everyone to see.

Oh, what the heck, I'll post my background...everyone can see how boring my life really is .
I was born in a small town just outside Philadelphia, PA. In fact, the town I was born in isn't my hometown, since that township was too small for a hospital or a high school (roughly 7000 inhabitants now). My father was a firefighter who left the force after I was born, because he had had too many close calls and didn't want to run the risk of dying before I grew up. He came down to Florida to respond to a job offer from Martin Marietta and began working for them in 1984; we followed within a couple weeks.
I went to three different elementary schools; of those, one was a "regular" school, one was special education, and the last was a new "regular" school built closer than the original. I attended a Lutheran middle school for one year (worst year of my life) and good ol' public middle school for two. I attended the largest single-campus high school in the United States (4890 students, graduating class 920) and graduated 27th in my class. I currently attend a small private college in Central Florida and am attempting to maintain a 4.0 GPA. I am the secretary of the local philosophy club and member of the International Students' Association. I am a student of Aikikai Aikido, and am planning on continuing with that as long as possible. No real relationships right now, since I'm socially shy, but hopefully that'll change relatively soon.
As far as cool things I've done, there are a small number. I was once on the cover of Sears catalog (I was a cute little kid; growing up didn't help me). I sat on Shamu's back (and have a photograph to prove it). I was part of a Winter Drumline that won a bronze medal at the World Championships, and still have the CD we burned and the medals we earned from that competition. I'm currently a member of Phi Sigma Tau, will be a member of Theta Chi Beta and Sigma Rho Epsilon next semester, and will be applying for Omicron Delta Kappa next semester.

Whoops, missed the whole location thing in your sig. Tank would hurt me for being that stupid, either for not remembering what she told me about Australia or for not looking (Tank's a friend of mine here at school from Oz, last name's Tankey, so we all call her Tank). My bad, I'm really not a totally ignorant NorAm (semi-ignorant, yes, but not totally ignorant).

Very well then.....
Some time in the early morning of July 24 1973, I came screaming into the world. My childhood was pretty basic involving two or three incounters with the local police. The only childhood vice I was able to avoid was drugs.
Graduated highschool early, mainly because I wanted work release and they wouldn't let me have it so at that point I noticed that I had enough credits to graduate then and there. Anyway at that point I had alread signed up for the Marines but had to wait till summer to go to boot camp.
I turned 18 in bootcamp, and served for 6 years in my beloved Corps and left as a SGT. At that point I had deployed twice, one on ABC and the other as part of the 31st MEU. I've been to survival school in Bridgeport Ca. and LFTC Pac at Coronado. Half the time I was a machinegunner in a Raid Company and the other half I was an instructor for a Combat Training School.
After my second deployment, the absolute best thing happened to me. I married my wife and started a family. Now almost 8 years later I have three kids, a decent job, a house, a truck, and just yesterday I bought a car. Damn, lifes good.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

MWUAHAHAH!!!!
I have a background....
Born July 17, 1984 in ALbuqeurque, New Mexico.
Moved around quite a bit my first couple of years, then ended up in Norfolk, Virginia. We moved to Lawton, Oklahoma the middle of my kindergarten year, then back to Virginia the start of my 4th grade year. After 7th grade, we moved to Roswell, NM. THere began my social repression. Long story. The middle of my junior year, my mom got arrested for beating my sister up, and my dad (who was stitioned in San Diego) had to go out to sea. Thusly, I ended up at my aunts' house in Albuquerque. I finished high school up here, and now am attending the University of New Mexico.
While in Albuquerque, I got my first job at the local dollar theatre. I stayed there for a year and two months (almost) until they decided to fire me over some bull shit. But it was there that I met my first bf. And (believe it or not) where I had my first kiss on my first real date. Which lasted an hour and a half. But you didn't want to know that, did you? Oh, well, too bad.
Ummm.....there's not much to me, I used to be a Roman Catholic, I was Confirmed, and at one point seriously considered becoming a priest...but that's all gone now. I am majoring in Computer Science, with a minor in Russian. Not much esle to say.

Born in 1989, lived in Pottstown, attended Lincoln Elementary until I was seven. Then I moved to a small town outside of Pottstown, where I lived for a year. Then, I moved to Japan, where I lived for a year, and I attended the American School in Japan. Then, I moved here, to Havertown, just outside of Philadelphia, where I currently attend Haverford Middle School, in the eighth grade wing.
Betcha didn't want to know that.
