Actually, thats exactly what it says in the Thrawn books, as well. If it weren't for the sudden, surprising, unlikely demise of the Executer, the Rebel fleet probably would have been wiped out.Aquatain wrote:The Executer must be the Unluckiest ship ever the entire chain of events leading up to it's demise is incredible.
I mean here we have a ship that is probally capable of wiping out the entire attacking force of rebels by itself, it should be able to withstand extencive bombardments from the rebels and still be able to return deadly fire...but then ..smacko A-wing kamikaze-loss of control-secondary bridge failure-inpact with space station..
That ship was cursed i say ..they should have gotten rid of their "jona".
LOL, funniest thing I've seen all day!
He made a reference to Treachery, Faith, and the Great River (DS9). He told everyone that Odo blew through a superdense asteroid field with a runabout and was an amazing pilot and better than the Wars guys, therefore they could dump a torp down the Death Star 1's exhaust port. When people criticized him, he told them to watch the episode and insulted them a little bit.
I wonder if HE has watched that episode (I recorded it), since the asteroid field was NOT dense, and the asteroids were hunks of pure ice and all very large and easy to dodge.
Unfortunately, everyone else was taking him at his word, so I called him out

My gosh, I see what you guys mean about DarkStar.
He skipped responding to several of my points, cutting one picture and one video out of the response.
He then claims repeatedly that he DID answer all my points, even though a search through the page reveals that he never quoted that picture and answered it.
Then he accuses ME of not answering all his points, even though I have. And unlike me, he has no example of what I might have not answered, so I have to wonder what this imaginary point he made is.

Meh, didn't sign up but lurked and read for the last hour or so. Really seems like Dark Star board MKII. I wonder if this guy's going to eventually get backed into a corner and then conclude his 'little experiment'.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Their system is open for abuse. And they know it. It's the only way they can win.
I think it's cute. And I won't waste my time.

Jesus Christ, those people are fucking idiots. I never realized how infuriating it is to argue against walls of ignorance of this magnitude before.

I just know his response is going to be on how I'm such a rude person and how that makes all my arguments invalid.

Since I'm too lazy to sign up myself, I'll just point out a few things here that others might've missed :

First post - since the pictures are from the TL Commentaries (Firepower Page now hosted on SD.net, they don't have an excuse for not reading the site. In this case...
Captain Newland missed the part where the sheer speed of the event greatly increases the amount of energy used. (Bloody hard to miss, since Darth Wong's further comments were in CYAN.)
He missed the part where the use of Iron instead of stone gives a much lower number for the vaporization.
He also misses where it was a point-defence gun that might not have been firing at full power, but someone else already pointed that out IIRC.
For some reason, even after supposing that they were vaporized, he still treated the 250 TJ figure like an upper limit.

Bunker Wall vs Blaster (in regards to the Leia blaster-shot scene) - in this case, it's a simple unknown material vs unknown weapon and thus isn't that good thing to use. However, the lack of scorch mark on the wall shouldn't suprise anyone - the bunker would be pretty useless if large holes can be poked into it with common hand weapons.
And hey, it just occured to me - there's also the Docking Bay/Blaster pictures in the TL firepower page, at the very bottom! They seemed to missed this one too when leeching for pictures.

A "pro-trek" site that seriously considered the possibility of Trek winning would probably have to consider possibilities only. For example, the entire Federation fleet being equipped with transphasic torpedoes and armor, that doesn't seem too hard to do given that Voyager was able to do this outside a spacedock with a minimum of hassle. But there's the temporal prime directive, and the Enterprise-E doesn't have transphasic torpedoes or abalative armor generators.Robert Walper wrote:*puts face in hands* Why? Why oh why do only terrible pro Trek sites exist? It's propaganda spread like this that gives us Trekkies bad names.

Oh wait...I gave myself a bad name.
On an aside, has anyone calculated the yield of a transphasic torpedo with minimum and maximum values?
Brian
I believe they were deemed to not be that powerful, just able to penetrate Borg shields because they operate on frequencies. If you've seen the episode, you'll notice that the torp hits and the explosion only occurs a few seconds later, meaning that they're probably a chain reaction weapon.brianeyci wrote:A "pro-trek" site that seriously considered the possibility of Trek winning would probably have to consider possibilities only. DarkStar and I are having a debate. He insists from the angle that it hit Leia's arm.Cyborg Stan wrote:

Or that effect has something to do with the "phasic" moniker of the torpedo. "Phasic" could mean any number of things.observer_20000 wrote:I believe they were deemed to not be that powerful, just able to penetrate Borg shields because they operate on frequencies. All ships in Star Trek operate on frequencies anyway. How did they determine that only Borg ships would be weak to the torpedo?
Brian
Maybe it would work on all enemies, but they're expensive so they're only used when they're needed? If you want to know I suggest you do a board search. I'm only speaking from memory here.brianeyci wrote:Or that effect has something to do with the "phasic" moniker of the torpedo.
