SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Californians will soon see advertisements urging them to help give Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) and other foreign-born citizens the chance to run for president.

The cable television ads, set to being running Monday, are from a Silicon Valley-based group that wants to amend the U.S. Constitution, which limits the presidency to people born in the United States. Schwarzenegger was born in Austria but became a U.S. citizen in 1983.

"You cannot choose the land of your birth. You can choose the land you love," Lissa Morgenthaler-Jones says in the ads.

She is a San Francisco Bay area mutual fund manager and major Schwarzenegger campaign donor who is helping pay for the ads and created a companion Web site.

Schwarzenegger, 57, has said he would consider running for president if the Constitution allowed but hasn't pushed for a constitutional change.

The TV ads mark the first significant attempt to build public support for an amendment. While polls show Schwarzenegger remains popular with voters, the idea of a constitutional change is not.

Four proposed amendments are circulating in Congress, but none has advanced. Constitutional amendments require congressional approval and ratification by 38 states.

Yes Stallone did play Demolition man.
But there was a throw away line about the Constitution being amended for Schwarzenegger to be President.

It would be nice, and if Republican can win the governorship of California it's entirely possible the Arnold amendmant will pass.

It's not like Arnie wasn't a success before all this. He was a leading muscle man before getting a business degree and earning his first million by his early twenties with a few sly stock tips. The movie career with Conan and his most beloved role in The Terminator sealed the deal and now he's a freaking politician.

It is important to know that Arnold has made 10x more money in real estate than he made in the movies.
Given how much he has been paid in some of his movies, he fucking rich!
(He married a Kennedy, and her lifestyle DIDN'T decline!)

He got $31M for T3 last year. That'd do me for life, lordy knows what he does for it. Probably puts it in a bean bag and sleeps on it.

The guy owns a mall in Indiana that's worth something like 200 million. Thirty million is a drop in the bucket for Ahnold.

As for the amendment, it probably won't pass unless Arnold does really, really well running California, or several more prominent foreign-born politicians start appearing.

If we're gonna see a constitutional amendment, I'd rather it be for the Gubenator to become the Presinator than a Gay Marriage ban. After all, the amendments that extend rights are a lot more favorable in my mind than those that deny them.

He's doing quite well and has a great approval rating, in the People's Republic of California no less.

And with the Democrats talking about Granholm (though why I still have no idea) as they do it's possible.

I'd be worried about Arnie's foreign policy. I cant exactly imagine him being a dove. Think "Axis of evil" was bad? Wait until Arnie calls half the world "Girly men"
