That confirms one thing for me, HL2 auto-config is worth crap. Check in your options.

Curse my friends, i'm going to have to wait till tonight!

And i'm waiting for someone to counter the Halo 2 ads saying "work wont matter anymore", with a Half Life 2 ad saying "Halo 2 doesn't matter anymore."

After dying for the umpteenth time on the dune-buggy section of the game, driving through/over/under/around roadblock after roadblock (up against the most annoying yet - an upturned semi across the highway, gravity gun's no good against that), I noticed a dull ache all the way from my finger tips up to my shoulders. My eyes were also burning out of their sockets. I realized at this point I needed to take a break.

Alas, I have failed. A mere 8 hours of continous gameplay (paused briefly once to scarf down some cereal), not nearly enough to complete the game.

Excuse me while I collapse into the wonderful oblivion of unconsciousness.

Assuming it finishes unlocking in a couple minutes, 12 hours straight would be until Midnight.

Bah, I still haven't gotten it to work. Apparently, a lot of people are having trouble, both physical owners and Steam owners.

Fuck if I know! All I know is, it says the files are done unlocking, the Monitor says that no games are being updated... but righ-clicking on HL2 says that it needs to get 99% more of files.

Anyone knows if the retail DVD includes HL:Source and stuff?

Regular version comes just with HL2 and CS. Collector's Edition has HL1, a shirt, strategy guide and a couple other things (no DoD IIRC).

Does the HL2 gravity gun have functionality that the UT2k4 gravity gun doesn't? I've only seen ther trailers, and the UT gravity gun does all that. Not as useful without a decent physics engine (or cunningly placed furnaces/blades/fans/holes etc), but fun for smashing. :)

HELP!

I've got the DVD version, everything's installed, but to run the game i need a steam account.

But the fucker wont get past setting my private question, keeps on saying:
"failed with error 200: failed to connect, winsock error 10061 "connection refused"

WTF is this shit?
Can i play the game without a steam account?

It also gives me :

"failed with error 200: failed to find master authentication server"

So could it be a problem at their end?

This is officially the worst launch ever. I was connected to Steam for two hours trying to get the stupid fucking game to work, and now that I find out you can simply unplug your connection and go "offline mode"... it freezes so I have to log in, and then Steam says THAT YOU CAN'T LOG IN RIGHT NOW!

FUCK YOU, VALVE!
You think you could, I don't know, PLAN AHEAD AND GET ENOUGH BANDWIDTH?

EDIT:

This bullshit game is chewing me out about my drivers. I have a Radeon 7500 graphics card with the latest drivers, it should be within the minimum system reqs, but it's not doing jack OR shit.

Maybe it's just as well I wait until my new PC. I don't like the sound of this and never saw Steam as being a good idea, I mean, downloading a game just sounds odd to me.

All being said...I will get Half Life 2, later.

Wow...feel bad if Steam is being this much of a bitch.

It is disheartening. It's bad enough with Halo 2 getting better PR and the storm over Steam in the past. But I know it'll be a great game, I just want the hardware to play it perfectly and so, for that I'm waiting. I hope everyone here gets the thing to work without throwing a temper tantrum and their PC out of the window.

A Radeon 7500 is like....... soooooo old.... Well, seriously. It'd be hard to think there won't be problems. :P

That's a bit for me too...I got a full overhaul, but by Christmas...I'll see how much fundage and how much is needed for HL2.

All in all, everything I've heard is that at WORST it's HL1 with more stuff.

At BEST, it's pretty much how the sequel to Half Life should be.

Looking forward to the romp.
