No, I'm simply appalled at the stupidity of this Golden Mean/Tu Quoue you've been flogging in this thread. You can whine 'You're pinning a motive on me!!!!!' if you really want, but your own words kind of show exactly what your 'motive' was for bringing this up.Kurgan wrote:I don't see what your objection is. Are you trying to pin a motive on my opinion of SuperShadow?SirNitram wrote:Kurgan, this is fucking ridiculous. What is with this desperate attempt to fold, spindle, mutilate, and bend SuperShadow into some sort of DarkStar Lite? Jesus Fucking Christ. No, there is not a Warsie version of Darkstar. Live with it! Trek has always produced an odd kind of deranged nutjob fan. Why? Probably because it preaches, and preaching tends to work.
It's just easier to see the "crazies" and "idiots" in somebody else's backyard than it is your own. For every Darkstar, there's a SuperShadow. For every Curtis Saxton there's a Lawrence Krauss. There's smart fans and "stupid" fans.
I'm sorry, I was unaware your delusional fallacies were sacrosanct. Sorry, Kur. You started with 'Both sides are just as bad', that lovable pile of festering dog shit which manages to blend Tu Quoue and Golden Mean. But hey. Heaven forbid you get called on stupidity when the top of the site says Mocker Of Stupid People. What the hell, is there a burden of proof on me to prove that Star Wars fans are capable of being as stupid or obsessed as Star Trek fans? I admitted that it's impossible to determine such a thing, since it's entirely subjective, and the sample size is too small. My own experience is merely been that there's a wide spectrum of idiots and non-idiots in both franchises that I've had contact with. I have no desire to change your beliefs, only show why I don't share them.If you're going to continue this Golden Mean bullshit, you could at least try and find someone who actually fits Darkstar's MO. Head over to Daltonator.net and check the 'Infamous Trolls And Idiots' entry on Wes Hutchings. That's someone who actually acts like Darkstar.
And where did that get said? Oh yea, no where.I never heard of Darkstar until I started visiting these forums, honestly. Most fans of either franchise probably haven't heard of him either. That's just a guess, but a fair one considering the size and scope of either franchise's fandom. Most fans probably don't know who Mike Wong is either, except a name they might have read in the back of the AOTC ICS.But of course you've never heard of him! Exactly the fucking point. While SW fanboys do reach this level, they do not create the sort of crusader fucking mentality ScootScoot has.
Mike Wong hadn't even heard of SuperShadow, even though the latter been a "fixture" of the online SW community since Episode I. ; )
I think it should be becoming clear that much as we might like to treat our little corner of the fandom as representative of the whole, there's simply no reason to assume that.
Yes. Ignore all instances of the fact Trek fans damn near try and garner attention with their stupid antics, such that 'Trekkie' becomes an understood peice of pop culture, must be balanced by an act of Warsie stupidity.. Only it doesn't happen. You can tell. People aren't seeing them happen.Maybe people are confusing the "Star Wars Vs. Star Trek Debaters Community" on the internet with Star Trek & Star Wars fans in general? Because I imagine the Vs. debaters community is much smaller, and it might be possible to get an accurate sampling and somehow prove that one side is more "stupid" or "insane" somehow. In my discussions I've always been talking about the fans in general, not Vs. Debators. Else I wouldn't have used the examples I did from the SW side, which, you'll note, have nothing to do with Vs. debates (though the Triumph skit did feature and actor in a Spock costume flipping the bird to the SW fans for effect!).
I'm sure you'll bleat about how you're 'just stating your opinion', the last cry of someone whose left with the crux of their statements torn out. Sorry, Kurgan. Your 'opinion' included statements about things which are not opinion; IE, that there are crazy SWers. Are there? Sure. But if you think you can flog your stupid fallacies on it, whoops.
