At about 4am last night I was lying awake listening to the heating clanking, when a thought occurred to me, regardless of the war-on-iraq, I think by putting this ban through on delay like that, Labour might just have ensured reelection - without getting into Tony Blair staying where he is or not. If it goes through in February, it's going to be in the news constantly for up until election time, with the Countryside Alliance getting very vocal about voting Tory because they'll revoke the legislation.
Regardless of the war, I think this will probably ensure that people who might have voted tory due to the war will vote labour to ensure that the fox hunting ban goes through. Remember the fire-fighter's strike? The longer that went on, the less people gave a shit and the more people sided with the government, with the countryside alliance threatening to institute mass (although that's a relative term) civil disobedience, it's going to be fresh in the public mind right up until election time, whilst the war on iraq might have started to slip from the mass media attention.
It's not going to lose labour any votes particularly because the countryside alliance (stereotyping) are probably more likely to be tory voters anyway.
That was what occurred to me last night, anyway. Thoughts?

I have seen a couple of people comment on the web that they will now vote Labour because they have fulfilled a manifesto promise against opposition.
I personally don't think Labour need anything to push them over the top (Mori has them with a 10 point lead amongst the general populace), the Conservatives are unelectable and they don't seem to be doing anything to dispel that idea.
Judging by Howard's performance up to now I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps on the Pro hunting bandwagon and makes himself a very easy target for those trying to portray him as the classical Tory out for the rich and the landed rich alike.
People may not be impressed about the war but I don't think they are going to sacrifice the economy, the NHS and possibly even issue such as Crime in order to vent their annoyance.
Enough people will swallow their annoyance and vote Labour (or abstain) that in all likelihood Blair will beat Thatcher’s record for years spent in office (in recent times).
The big question for me is who will replace Howard after he gets the traditional Tory scalping for not winning.
