Western Front and Allied Operations statistics

Post by K. A. Pital »

Found some more information on the actual importance of Allied operations in the war with Germany (second front and bombing raids in particular), and when exactly did the Allies seriously kick in?

Dislocation of German divisions as of June each year
Country 1941 1942 1943 1944
USSR 34 171 179 157
France, Belgium, Holland 38 27 42 56
Norway, Finland 13 16 16 16
Balkans 7 8 17 20
Italy - - - 22
Denmark 1 1 2 3
North Africa 2 3 - -

Actually this shows clearly that Rommel's african operations (and all the operations against him) were absolutely insignificant on the grand scale of events.
The bulk of German forces has always been deployed to the Eastern front. Even the Western front opened in 1944 managed to steal only about 30% of total, not forgetting the fact that some of the Western front divisions were not in combat until 1945. Which makes the comparison even more stunning.

The percentage of German armed forces on the Eastern front, to total number of, including not involved in combat personnel, divisions and planes)
- 1941 1942 1943 1944
Divisions 67% 75% 60% 57%
Personnel 84% 74% 72% 40%
Planes 64% 65% 42% 45%

Percentage of Luftwaffe planes used to combat Allied bombers
Month Year Percent
June 1940 0%
June 1941 7%
June 1942 17%
June 1943 21%
June 1944 29%
January 1945 50%

The total Allied military loss is estimated from 200.000 to 1.000.000. I won't be comparing that to military losses of Germany or Soviet Union... the result is already known.

Third Reich oil output
Year Tons
1939 8.000.000
1941 7.300.000
1942 7.700.000
1943 8.900.000
1944 6.400.000

Interesting indeed. The bombings seriously affected German chemical industry (including oil) only in 1944, after the start of the so-called "oil offensive". Not earlier:

Apparently he had to walk to Germany to get that data and then walk back to Siberia or something.

This is the greatest Delayed Reaction Syndrome event I've ever seen. That fundie coming back after two years not long ago doesn't count. He didn't have an argument.

Luck, I guess. IIRC, there were a couple of threads to give him a title.

Duh, he went back in time to the 1940s to get the real information. Unfortunately his calculations for the return trip were off by a year or so.

Luckily, that can be cured by a quick spell of thread-lockery.
