Hello, I lurked around here for like a couple months, and decided to post this to see what you people think about it. I'm in yig (youth in goverment) I have to write a bill and I decided to do it on same sex mariage. I decided it wold read somthing like this

Same sex marriages shall be legalized in the state of Michigan

How does that look?
This is the right place for this right?

That is all well and good, but first you will have to write a bill that abolishes the very harsh anti-sodomy law in michigan. In that particular state, homosexuals such as Verilon and I can face up to 15 years in prison for "sodomy" and that is just for the first "offense" on the second we could face LIFE IN PRISON.

Yeah, that really is a shitty law. Thankfully, I don't know of any cases where they've enforced it.

Uh, should a bill be that short? Do you need any provisions linking same sex marriages to be the equal of non same sex marriages? I'm not the biggest expert in legislature. Though I assume its Michigan because your bill is a state bill right?

By the way, you really should add in that there are no banned sexual positions between consenting adults of any gender (there's still a law, I believe in Georgia, banning anything but the missionary position). That may be beyond the limits of what you're supposed to do, though, so tell us more about this curious bill you're writing.

Just doesn't work that way. Find the marriage statute for Michigan. In the marriage statute it lists what you need to be married. (A) Age (B) Sex (here is where you insert a sub heading. A legal and valid marriage shall be recognized between a man and a woman, or people of the same gender.) And so on and so forth.

Laws are not just some words on a paper, statutes have some very clear and concise rules and laws are broken down into their simplest elelments in order to make interpretation less neccessary (Legislatures HATE it when Courts interpret laws.) Laws alaways have room for change so that when you want to add same sex marriages you simply slip it into the list of requirements for matrimony.

A law like that needs to be more broad; for example they may legalize gay marriage but sex between them would still be illegal. And consenting sex between homosexuals should not be the only taco on the combo plate-- I'm in Idaho where any sodomy or 'unnatural act' at all is illegal, even if it is done in a heterosexual relationship. I've done (theoretically!) naughty things with girls that are technically, well, naughty.

Before we leaglize same-sex marraige, we should get all the anti-gay laws off the books, so they can marry without fines that a styraight couple wouldn't get.

Actually, I think it's only if you publicly admit to it, or a partner charges you for some reason. But in reality, it isn't seriously enforced..
