Zag glanced about the room while he stood, waiting for something to happen. He'd been in the presence of Inquisitors before, but never so many at once. The lieutenant glanced to Greshn briefly, confirming that his anxiety was not just a personal problem. The Commissar was not much of a concern to him, indeed, he might be the only one in the room to whom he could easily confide in. Schmidt voxed him over the headset about something, but it didn't seem urgent and Zag was more concerned with all the Inquisitors present. A fine mess he'd gotten himself into once again.

So, there he was a little over a Terran month from the Schola, in a room full of members of His Most Holy Inquisition, as well as an assassin. Truly He moves in strange ways.

He nodded respectfully at Chapel the assassin. "It seems to be a mystery to all gathered, Chapel."

He glanced at the Inquisitors, cold suspicion lurking in his mind as it should for any proper commissar. "Lord Inquisitors, if we have all been brought here without any knowledge of the reason, could this possibly be a trap?"

Pater stirred. "We all appear to have been summoned on the authority of Lord Inquisitor Vonrilyental to investigate heretical cults. The reason we do not know the details is because we have only just arrived; Unless you consider it to be a trap every time your Regiment is called to the briefing room."
Sgt. Slate sniggered.

We should be able to discuss our mission in relative safety, although the possibility of ambush always exists."

Kruger shrugged. "Lord Inquisitor Vonrilyental has taken command of the body. I can only say that he was a Techpriest, male, and tainted by Chaos."

I must confess a great deal of curiousity about what kind of investigation mandates the attention of every available inquisitor, an assassin, and tech priest, as well as representatives from the Imperial Guard." He nods briefly towards Ristani. "Every secular enforcer of the Divine Emperor's will seems be present, save the Abrites and Astartes."

Prius' cheeks reddened slightly at the offhanded reprimand, and he nodded curtly. The moment passed quickly as Kruger mentioned the corrupted techpriest.

"The laborers who spoke to me of the earlier unrest mentioned the presence of xenos scum as well," he chimed in, blissfully unaware of the xenos scum employed by his compatriots in the room. "This station may need a purging of sword and fire to cleanse it."

The words were delivered with cold certainty, but there is an underlying eagerness to it. No one who graduates from the Commissariat training program is a stranger to death, and it would seem that the young man had a... commendable eagerness to get on with his work.

"Ah. I noticed the heavy xenos presence as well. One of my agents is checking to see if there is a rogue trader present on the station. But even illegal xenos trade does not demand the presence of every available inquisitor, as well as the presence of so many other servants of our beloved Emperor. Can our colleague from the College of Assassins shed any light on this matter?"

Everyone waited a few moments for a qualifying statement before realising that Chapel had said all he was going to say on the subject.

Kruger cleared his throat. "In any case, the presence of Xenos on this station pales before the presence of the Heretic. Of all the Holy God Emperor's enemies the Heretic is the most insidious; Aliens cannot hide their true natures from us and must always be treated with caution, therefore they lack the power of the Heretic to damage the Imperium of Man from the inside out. If one purges a planet of Heretical impulses then the Xenos problem takes care of itself, as it were."

"There are some Tau onboard the station. Also a band of Kroot that I myself hire for their exceptional abilities and their familiarity with this Segmentum. I believe it is safe to talk in front of them, yes. They would not have been summoned here if they were not trusted."

"I agree that there must be evidence of matters involving our particular calling which requires the presence of so many Inquisitors of our Ordo here," responds Gix as he leans back in his chair.

"The Enemy we guard against does not exclusively plague mankind and that is relevent information. The Ruinous Powers are not drawn to the Tau, but there are other xenos that they do have an interest in. A site or artifact of xenos origin could be connected to the Great Enemy and those who would use it might desire xenos contact to fully exploit it, leading them to encourage commerce with aliens. We should not rule out a connection and keep our eyes open."

His jaw drops as Kruger not only admits that he employs xenos, but speaks in a complimentary fashion of them.

A long way from the schola indeed...

He's even more stunned that the others present don't reprimand him for this obviously treasonous behavior. Or more appropriately declare him excommunicatus on the spot.

It's one of the bedrock articles of faith... no mercy for the mutant, the alien, or the heretic.

"You employ... aliens?" he asks Kruger. Surely there must be some sort of explanation, but what explanation can justify consorting with the foul creatures?

Kruger glossed over the fact that they do this by eating their victims. Prius looked like the kind of hard-line fanatic who'd try to blow his brains out on the spot, Inquisitor or not.
