His shoulders snap rigid when Nathan gives him the command voice. Failure of the Guard inevitably reflects the failure of the Commissariat. He slowly rises to his feet.

"My lord inquisitors, I would not lecture you on the precepts of the Emperor's word... but the alien cannot be trusted, as has been proven time and again throughout our history. The Ruinous Powers are indeed our most dire opponent, but oftentimes various xenos have aligned themselves with the debased powers. How are we to know that these creatures are not also playing us for pawns and fools? If we are to have victory here, it will come from bolter, lasgun, chainsword, and the will of the God Emperor."

He looks at each inquisitor in turn, aware that any of them could likely snuff out his life with but a thought, but he will stand faithful in his service to the Emperor.

"I trust them as far as I trust Heretics Which means I EXPECT them to betray me at some point in time but I will be civil to them before then.
They are here ,now, though I would prefer more troops if it were possible Squats and Ogryn would be welcome but As I said before we must make do with the gifts the Emperor has given us."

"Commissar, I would be quite happy to show you my evidence of the Kroot's natural, instinctive aversion to Chaotic infuence at some later date. Rest assured that I, nor any other Inquisitors at this table, would trust any Xenos further than I could throw them. I also do not believe that my colleague here" He glanced at Nathan "Meant any disrespect to the Commissarat when he stated that the local Guard might be corrupted. Am I correct, Inquisitor?" He looked at Nathan for support.

"Commisar," said Gix southingly, "our sacred duty is to the Master of Mankind and to our race. If we can employ xenos to serve that purpose we will, if they are an obstacle they will be removed. The Emperor, in His Wisdom, empowered the Rogue Traders and the Inquisition with the authority to deal with aliens and to make that particular determination. The Imperial Guard is called in after the determination has been made that they must be eliminated."

"As for the guard contingent here, there is evidence of corruption in this place. As of yet we don't know how far it stretches. Prudence dictated that despite being called by a senior inquisitor, I scanned this room and proceeded with caution. The same prudence mandates that we use whatever resources available that are most likely to be uncorrupted. If that means kroot or tau, then we will use both. Our responsibilities in this matter are too heavy for us to flinch from doing what must be done."

His jaw muscles bunch, his fists clenched in a white-knuckle grip. For him, it's personal. Tyranids stole his family from him as a boy, and one of his earliest memories is seeing the tyranids overwhelm his home hive.

But he must admit the logic, however perverse, to what they say. Likewise, he must admit their authority in these matters.

It is not in the nature of an Imperial Commissar to bend, for they are the rigid representations of the Emperor's own sacred will. But in this circumstance, he must bend.

He manages a curt "Objection withdrawn," before taking his seat again.

Kruger decided to keep an eye on Ristani; There seemed to be more going on there than was being let out. He subvocalised his concerns to Pater.
"Why don't you kill him?" Pater said inaudibly through the vox.
"That's your solution for everything."

Nathan watches him "I do not mean to insult the Commisartiat .They have a hard duty to do insuring the loyalty and obedience of the troops under them. But that loyalty and obedience can b used against us. How many Regiments went Renegade during the Herasy because the officers in charge told the troops and Commisars that what they were doing was the Emperors will?"

"You are a good and loyal servant of the Emperor Commisar rember that.I am as well as are my fellow Inquisitors.But we approach the job in our own unique ways. This is a strength in that our enemies know ,in a general manner, the general way we jump when poked but not how we will respond as individuals. If we all racted in the same manner to the same stimulation then ....our order would have been dead centuries ago"

He nods at Nathan, keeping his tongue. He's spoken enough, and he's curious as to why the inquisitors are being so... reasonable. In similar circumstances, he would have simply executed the dissenter and moved on to the business at hand.

Reason and understanding have often led to corruption in the past. He resolves to keep an careful eye on these proceedings. If, Emperor forbid, he is called upon to oppose servants of the Inquisition for reasons of laxity or heresy, let Him grant the strength to do His will.

If Grampa's auspexes were to be believed, the noise level of the room dropped by twelve decibels upon Vorus's entrance. It was only to be expected, considering previous events which some of those present had been witness to. To their credit, they hid any discomfort at his appearance well. The techpriest took a seat without saying a word of greeting.

Zag and Greshn shuffle nervously at the open discussion of dealing with xenos. The lieutenant was getting a very bad feeling about this assignment, unnerved not only by all the Inquisitors, but by the presence of an Assassin and a techpriest to boot. Zag was accustomed to being thrown about as little more than expendable fodder, but this was getting out of hand.

Pater snatched a glance at the bold Commissar. There were old ones, and bold ones.. If Prius got in the way of His Majesty's Glorious Inquisition he wouldn't get past the 'bold' stage, Pater vowed.

Captain Lena Novadlorian walked in briskly, hand on the hilt of a power sword she was now wearing, rather than the much more ornamental one she had been wearing before. One would note that she had also changed the naval pistol for a laspistol, clearly wanting the greater ammunition capacity. It wasn’t often one had the excuse to keep a room-full of Inquisitors – and others – waiting, but she did. The fact that she’d also used the time to change into the deep green dress uniform of the Segmentum Obscurus, sporting a large amount of gold braid and several medals, not least the Obscurus Honorifica, a gleaming medallion-star about the size of her fist, to which two gold lanyards were pinned, and the medallion crimson, given to any rank of the Imperium’s vast military who had survived severe injury and still done their duty with valour, though there were no obvious scars or augmetics on the captain. Indeed, she looked rather young for her age too. Further, the more one looked among the station’s officers, the less one would find the bionics that were common amongst the navy’s experienced crew.

She sat down at the table, shooting a meaningful glance that said wait outside to the naval commissar with her, and after a brief expression of irritation, he nodded, stepping back through the double doors and closing them.

“Gentlemen,” she said, eschewing formality far more than one really ought to, “I must apologise for the delay. It appears there’s been an incident on the planet. As some of you may have been aware there were a number of Space Marines,” she faltered, “Adeptus Astartes if you prefer, on the planet below.

“Well. There aren’t any more, except for one, badly injured. I’ve requested that he be brought up here, but I’ve yet to hear back. From what can be told, they were ambushed near an Adeptus Mechanicus shrine,” she gave a suspisious glance towards the techpriests present, “in the Hive Tertius. I’ve had my crew do a little analysis on the components extracted from the heretic’s gun servitor. They were manufactured from the materials around Hive Tertius.” She knew the tech-priests would object to such a ‘violation of the machine spirits’ of the equipment she’d taken apart, but didn’t much care.

“I suggest,” she said after a moment, “that we,” she looked around the table, “go down there to see about dealing with this heresy. The shrine in question is actually on the outer face of the hive, so gaining entrance from one of our assault boats shouldn’t be a major problem…” she trailed off and looked around for any recognition of her suggestion.

Nathan faced her.He noted her fidgeting as he scrutinised her.He noted her appearance and chuckled .Womndered if he could talk privately with her after this mess if they survived.

" Captain is there an Astropath abord this station?We may need to arrange something if we fail ."

Kruger nodded. "My ship is fully fueled and ready for departure. It should comfortably hold the members of this council and has sufficient armament to protect itself. I must admit to being eager to get to the bottom of this Heresy."

Edit: He glanced at Nathan. "I have an astropath aboard my vessel, if you should require his services."

Prius leans forward. "Captain, we must contact the Borean Rifles immediately. They are scheduled to begin landing soon, and if whatever is down there has overwhelmed a number of Battle Brothers of the Astartes, the 323rd regiment could be ambushed upon arrival and overwhelmed."

It would be a shame to see them destroyed before their proper use as cannon fodder in the name of the Emperor, after all. The others in this room represent the scalpel, but the only available hammer is the scum of the 323rd.

The captain nodded, “Yes,” she said, “we have. I’m also having two squadrons of Marauder bombers prepared for launch.”

She wasn’t taking any chances. Anything that had done… that… to a Land Raider was formidable indeed. She turned to Prius, “I shall ensure it is done immediately,” she said.

Prius nods, momentarily mollified. Now he knows why he was summoned, and at least the current suspicion of heresy on the part of the colonel and the Borean Rifles is assuaged.

He leans back, his fingers lightly tapping on the table as he begins considering the implications of an assault landing on the Tertius Hive. Hive battles are always meatgrinders of the worst variety... it will be an excellent opportunity to weed out some of the more heinous troublemakers.

Nathan looked around "Also when do we go down? Should we recon in force or launch an all out assault little knowing what lay in wait for us save that whatever it is it ripped an Astartes unit apart"

Nathan then chuckles" Looks like I may need to form a retinue after all ....but after this mess is over with"

He looks at Captain Novadlorian " I think I know whom I may ask to join me first "

“We think,” she said, “that we know most of the shrine’s defences already. The external ones at least. They keep a large landing area for their own use, through which we will be able to gain entrance.

“May I propose,” she said after a moment, switching to high gothic, a language basically unknown to the Tau, “That we send the Xenos in first to test the internal defences…”

"The 323rd is a standard light infantry regiment, Lord Inquisitor. Lasguns, light anti-armor capacity, foot-mobile. It was the assumption when they were founded that they would be sent into Armageddon, so what training they have received thus far has been geared toward battle with the greenskins."

And how glorious would that have been, to fight under the direction of the famed Yarrick against the wretched Ghazghul? Sigh. He shakes his head and continues. "They are an untried unit, and frankly Borea's manpower capacities were quite strapped at the time of the latest tithing, so this is not what could be called a truly... well-honed and reliable unit, although I have managed to straighten up the disciplinary matters. As has been said," and with this he looks at Kruger. "We work with what we have."

He steps slightly from the concealing shadows in the back, holding himself in a fashion fitting for a veteran Guardsmen.

"What are the assets of Rifles? We'll we be able to acquire vulture or valkyrie support? Can the Boreans supply us with a support? I do not wish to show a lack of faith in the Inquisition, but what has been assembled will be no match for the Adeptus Mechanicus should they feel that we are a threat."
