Imperial Shields on a ISD

Post by DarkSilver »

Question on Imperial Shield Coverage, this is not about the firepower they can take, but how much of the ships they cover.

And before you say "all of it idiot" hear me out.

There is a claim by a friend of mines, that one of the guides he has for Star Wars, claim that the ISD's hanger bays are covered by a idependant and weak shield system, along with point defense weapons, to prevent fighter''s from attacking it.

I insist that the hanger bay is covered by the Particle Shields of the ISD, and they are dropped over the hangers when fighter's are launched.

I'm wondering, since I do not have any access to books atm (my location does not allow it), is this true? Is this a possible weakspot for a ISD should a fighter be agile enough to avoid the point defense and send a few missles into the hangers?

What's the name of the guide your freind is using?

That's true according to The Essential Guides to Weapons and Technology

when I asked him that, he told me "The Guide to General Tech"

not sure if that's eeven one of the books (I'm on a oilrig offshore, not exactly close to a books-a-million or B. Dalton bookstore).

The answer also bears some weight, as it will help in a ruling I'm figuring out for a online RPG I'm running. Someone wanted to know about shooting a few torp's up a ISD's hanger bay.....

Interestingly enough, they did that very thing in Wraith Squadron, or at least something similar to it-- they caught an ISD with its pants down and blew out its reactor. Then one or two of the TIE Fighters that the Wraiths were flying went up into the cavity and just started blowing the ship apart from the inside... rotating in place while firing away, something like that.

Fascinatingly enough, if you consider the scale of the ISD compared to a TIE fighter, that would've been a fucking huge cavity for it to shoot at... and it does say something for ISD construction that, even though they'd lost their reactor, the ship was still holding together, even though according to the ICS it's a HUGE portion of the internal mass...
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

I believe there was also a Corellian Corvette, Night Crawler, involved in that shoot out and to be fair the ISD had had it's shield generators destroyed by what it thought was friendles.

Ah yes I remmeber that one. now are we talking about when they took out the Main Landing bay of the Iron Fist with a kamikaze light frieghter or when Piggy and (oh i cant rememebr her name) latched onto the sides of the control towers and just shot under the SD shields blew the generators and then at one point they flew in a couple of fighters and started gutting the thing, becuase it sounds a WHOLE lot like you guys are mixing the two events... but thats just me...

Err......no.

We're talking about the Final Battle with the Implacable. It thought they (The Corellian Corvetter Night Caller) were friendly, they even let their TIEs escort it. Then the TIE's grey Flight execute 'talon strike' blasting off the shield domes and the bidge. The the Night Caller's hanger bay popped open and shot a squadron's worth of torps into the ISD's belly half way between the solar reactor and the Hangar bay. A TIE and a X-Wing pooped into said hole (against orders) and started blasting feul cells. The X-Wing maid it oyt had was promptly vaped by a turbolaser the TIE got hung up in the wreckage and died when the implacable crashed into a moon and blew up.

Yeah, and remember, the operation was one of Wedges better ideas, although then again, even when he tries to lose he wins.

That was the insulting name given to the ship by "Blood Nest" (which Face called "Bloody Nose" :P) when Night Caller raided the pirate base./

The Night Caller's turbolasers also fired into the hole blown into the reactor, and the ship itself lost power.

Another point i'd like to make is that the Night Caller was using an capitial Ship grade tractor beam to raise all sorts of shit from the surface of the moon making it neigh on impossible for the ISD to reliably target anything.

Maybe it's one of the Essential Guide books?

Anyway, those books are non-canon, so if it contradicts the EU or movies...burn it!
