My Return of the Jedi ending

Post by Adam Reynolds »

I think that return of the Jedi is the worst Star Wars movie and the main thing that bugged me was the Ewoks and the Endor battle
I think it should have been better
Here is my ending idea
the main battle hapens onboard the Death Star, it was just completed before the battle and Wookies were still onboard because they were building it. The strike team attacks the prison and frees all of the Wookies and gets them to revolt against the Empire. Instead of just disabling the sheild they sabatage the superlaser so that it explodes and creates a big hole in the Death Star and the Rebel fleet attacks and begins destroying the Death Star

I was annoyed when GL replaced that cool Ewok song with that new crap.

And I don't like this ending any better.

I don't like your ending. But whatever.

For one, why would the Emperor use Wookies to construct the jewel of the galaxy, a symbol of dominion over all?

I liked the Ewoks. They're cute but they're savage. They're little and underestimated but they end up being of help. It's a good book/cover thing. They always get too much of a bad rap from people. And I agree, the 'Yub Nub' song was way better..

Actually, in the AOTC DVD commentary Lucas implies that the Death Star was constructed by the Geonosians. It was along the lines of, 'You don't have to feel sorry for the construction crews that were aboard when it was destroyed (a reference to the movie 'Clerks') because it turns out they were just big termites.'

That makes no sense anyway; why would a starship keep all the labor gangs aboard?

So do I, actually. I don't think ROTJ is the worst movie, TPM holds that dubious distinction unfortunately. I think if you're gonna improve ROTJ, you don't have to do much - show the Rebel SpecOps commandos actually DOING something; show more of the space battle, just because; and instead of having Ewoks with bows and arrows, see them take blasters off of dead stormtroopers and use them (we saw this at least once in ROTJ, but it was just a brief shot of an Ewok with a blaster).

There, problem solved. Quick, simple additions. No need to drastically redo the plot.

A smoother transition between "Escape from Jabba" and the rest of the movie would also be nice, as well as having Vader actually be knocked down before getting his hand chopped off, instead of just deciding to sit down in the middle of a lightsabre duel for some reason.

Oh, and Leia not being Luke's sister, that was just dumb. I would also have preferred it if Obi-Wan had fessed up to the fact that he lied to Luke, rather than give that "certain point of view" speech.

Meh, on the certain point of view, this aspect of the movies goes for an Authurian bent. You can't know your the boy king until its time to be the boy king. Purity, who then is tempted, as it was.

One of the things Kenobi had to protect Luke from, was Luke. Fill his head with visions of Glory, Adventure, a Jedi craves not these things. Get it into his head that he's the last Jedi and the shiznit, then you'll have all sorts of problems.

Besides, how do you sit down with a teen and explain he's the heir to all that is wrong in the galaxy. The sins of his father are responsible for the misery of trillions and the only way you can solve this, is to help hunt down and kill our long lost father.

'A certain point of view' seems alot better now.

It was dumb the way they did it. Tacked on and insincere. It could have worked if it was from day one, and if Leia had some kind of affinity to the Force.

That was one of the best lines in ROTJ. "Luke you're gonna find out that many of the truths we cling to depend on a certain point of view." A good lesson to learn.

She did. Her resistance to the mind probe was considerable in ANH, and she heard Luke's call through the force in TESB.

Really? I found it one of the more enduring qualities. A mystical/philosiphical thing.

Or more doppy humans to follow the directions of the species who designed the damn thing.

Ok, I really just wanted to see her wield a lightsabre.

Like Knife, I think it was a philosophical take on the matter. Besides, it's not like Vader was a nice guy anyway. He did lie, but it's not so black/white a situation as "OMG, Obi-wan is a liar! That sumbitch!" ;)

I thought that Wookies and other races (basicly, any strong nonhuman race that could be used for expendable builders) were use as slave workers on the first Death Star, not second? (Then executed afterwards, IIRC)

Yub Yub. Its classic in that its an oldschool SW track, but its so horribly out of synch with the rest of the stuff AND the glorious ending that I can't help but cringe...

Damn, good point. A lot of people give Lucas shit for making stuff up as he goes while saying he had a grand plan, but Leia being Luke's sister probably isn't one of them. I just think he wanted that kiss to be damn creepy. DUDE, YOU JUST KISSED YOUR SISTER!
