Its called common sense. A violent child that is avoiding being restrained has sufficient strength on their own to seriously injure themselves. Anything short of extreme physical detainment on the part of the police officer (which can very likely lead to the child having bones broken) can’t stop a child from doing something to hurt themselves. You can not totally physically restrain a child.

But they don't, so it is. If you give a policeman a taser, he will use it. And he will use it to make his life easier, instead of struggling with someone to keep him on the ground, you can just zapp him.The Yosemite Bear wrote:3. if people used common sense this wouldn't be a problem...
Tasers should be used instead of guns, not instead of arm locks - but that's not how it's going to be.

The thing is that the case in point that I brought up relates to the use of tasers by SOGgies in situations where they usually would have to use deadly force - surely there isn't a problem there?GySgt. Forget it. Terrorists Are People Too (TM) will be appearing on t-shirts momentarily.weemadando wrote:The thing is that the case in point that I brought up relates to the use of tasers by SOGgies in situations where they usually would have to use deadly force - surely there isn't a problem there?
I find it hard to oppose the use of Tasers instead of SMGs by SOCgies in scenarios where under conventional tactics deadly force would be used, except for the fact if it's an exchange of a terrorist for a SOCgie I want my guys to live. Tasers don't automatically put someone down IIRC. But no matter.
i´ve never heard of a child braking it´s own bones by fighting a grab.Alyeska wrote:Its called common sense. I was reading on the Wikipedia that tasers can't penetrate thick clothing. So...how thick? Could a guy with a sweatshirt, or a heavy winter coat stop the taser dart?
Also, don't tasers take quite a while to reload and have a limited range? If you're in a situation where lethal force is required, it might be wiser to skip over the taser.

Yow. I don't know what's worse, the black woman getting tasered for asking for a mirror, or the Russian immigrant woman getting tasered for refusing to sign something without a translator. I think we need to take our cops' shiny toys away, since they obviously have no idea what the fuck they're doing with them.

Then they get sodomized with a plunger. It's not the devices that are the problem; it's the cops that are.Executor32 wrote:Yow. A sweatshirt, probably not, a winter jacket, most likely, especially if it's a ski jacket with a strong tight weave which the Taser darts can't get through.HemlockGrey wrote:I was reading on the Wikipedia that tasers can't penetrate thick clothing. Yup, limited range, limited accuracy, limited effectiveness, and a bitch to reload. They are of limited to no use in a situation where lethal force is needed, just draw a gun a shoot the guy and don't dick around with a taser which may or may not work, and leaves you SOL should your first & only shot miss. With a gun you have at least 5 more shots at the guy, more like 10-15 with modern semi-autos.Also, don't tasers take quite a while to reload and have a limited range?
