A lot like Australia. It wasn't that the general populace liked the Liberals (read Australia's right wing party) policies or even the members that they were electing. It was just that the Labour party had no issues and a bunch of dead-heads running for office.

The best way for the US government to run is for the President to be one party and the Congress to be the other. That way each party's stupid pet projects are more likely to fail. I voted primarily Democrat this election, because I strongly dislike Baby Shrub (Jeb Bush for those not in the loop). The ironic thing is that Bill McBride was defeated, yet both the constitutional amendments he supported and ran on as a platform passed despite the fact that Baby Shrub is opposed to them. And of course, there were disenfranchised voters again (I would blow it off, but one of them is a friend's grandmother, so I'm taking it seriously this time and will actually support attempts to have criminal charges filed against the Republican Party, since it was their representatives who did it).

I don't see why the repiglicans in the media make comments about how bad it was before Nov 5. With the exception of judicial nominees and other issues, democrats caved in to Bush constantly. In fact, democrats are more rightwing than ever before. You never see someone, demo or repub, criticised in campaign ads for being too conservative. It's always for being liberal, even in the least.

Republicans have had control of the media since Reagan killed the fairness doctrine. It's a small wonder that they didn't take over the nation earlier, considering the pro-conservative propaganda that airs 24/7 on the network and cable media establishments.

First we had the vote fraud commited by the repigs during the 2000 election. A Texan company handling the felon lists. This same felon list with many thousands of people on there that weren't felons at all, and it's still that way right now. They never bothered to fix it; they merely admitted it had a few errors, then they moved on.

Now we've seen the debut of many new electronic voting systems that leave no paper trail behind. It's going to be easier than ever for republicans to steal those votes.

Damn this is one of the few elections I missed, and due to the runs of all things.

I think your looking through life through singular political view point. There is plenty of opposing views on various media outlets for any political stance. If you look for only one view, you can definatly find it but if you look a little harder for other views you can find them as well.

Name a mass media outlet that dares to criticise US foreign policy. Fringe publications like Zmag don't count.

Now name a mass media outlet that was prepared to draw attention to the close ties between the Bush and bin Laden familes and the fact that Shrubby told the security services to back off the bin Ladens (prior to Sept 11) because he didn't want his business partners investigated.

There is no American mass media outlet for views that might lead the sheeple to question the actions of the US government or the unofficial inner circles of power.

Maybe banning contraception for a while might up the birth rate, after all europe's population must not fall too far behind, otherwise we won't have anyone to fight in a probable war against China,

Exactly, we are slowly turning into a police state. I'll most likely shoot myself in 20-30 years from now. Seriously.

Every other report on CNN, MSNBC, and the others is about some critism by a opposing view be it a member of Congress, Academia, or special interest group slamming the current administration about one thing or another. The New York Times, the LA Times, and other so called mainstream papers have no trouble printing op/ed pieces against the current administration. Various magazines to include Newsweek and Time also have no problem in this regard. On the internet, the choises become even more diverse, and one can find either a news, info, propaganda, or ego stroking web site to ones liking.

Some people come standard with a political filter and see only what they wish to see but that does not mean that the other infomation is not there to be had.

No one is really sure quite what the PRC is at the moment, but calling it communist is quite a stretch. These days, they're just as much into turning a profit as is the rest of the industrialized world.

The main reason that couples in the western world are stopping at one child is money. The current brand of capitalism hasn't seen fit to pay workers enough to afford to raise the 2.1 kids necessary to keep the population from shrinking. Consider it a confrontation between the unstoppable forces of capitalist greed and the cold hard facts of evolution: in economically optimizing our society to make a few people extremely rich we will be evolving ourselves out of existance. There's a neat irony there, don't you think?

What do you think is worse : money out of your wallet going to families in need (or according to the repig dictionary : black crackmommas squirting out babies), or money out of your wallet going to corporate entities that don't use that money constructively, rather stuffing it into the pockets of CEOs and rich shareholders?

Forgive him, for he knows nothing of what he talks about. China didn't exactly fit the description of a real communist nation in the past, and certainly isn't going to in the future. In fact, they are turning raw capitalist.

In fact, that's already happening. The population in Portugal (and in the E.U, I believe) has increased this last two years after more than a decade of slow shrinking, due to the new wave of emmigrants from Eastern Europe. It's a very good thing too, because they are highly educated (almost all of them with college degrees) and merge in society very quickly.

So, we don't have with them the kind of exclusion and poverty problems that we have with others.

Eastern Europe will provide the injection of new blood the E.U is needing, with new members like Poland.

True. . . what I find somewhat bizarre is that, at the federal level, the Liberals (hardline economic rationalists) trounce Labour (union stooges most of the time), while at the state level it is the other way 'round.

The interesting thing is that this serves as a pretty good brake on the federal government, because if the Liberal Prime Minister gets out of hand, the Labour premiers all object :)

Also, I'll always prefer someone who thinks with their head instead of their emotions. There is hope of reasoning with the first type, even if it takes time.

I want the Greens/Democrats to get some more seats in the lower house.

Look at Tassie. The Greens very nearly got more seats than the liberals at the last election.

THAT would be amusing.
