OT character deaths?

Post by consequences »

What authors other than KJA have had the balls to kill off a character from the classic SW trilogy in the EU? Not that there are many to choose from that aren't major characters, and didn't already die during the movies, but I'm kind of curious.
Spoilers, for the three SW fans who haven't read the NJO, and don't already know:

Discount R.A. Salvatore and Chewbacca's death.

There's General Madine... killed in Darksaber by Durga the Hutt. Aside from that, you're sod out of luck, iirc. Sorry...
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

For those of us who aren't telepathic and/or have KJA's garbage memorized, which character did he kill off?

Madine, as has been said twice.

And his death is LAME. Durga has him kneeling on the floor for some time. Then the Hutt just points a blaster at him and blows a hole through his head.

Elheru had it. KJA made Darksaber, where he killed off General Madine--which was already discussed in the OP. What a confused bunch you are. :P

James Luceno killed off Admiral Ackbar, sort of, off screen.

I think somebody killed off Mon Mothma too.

Mon Mothma was poisoned, that's all I remember, but then some Mon Calamari Jedi saved her. That was in some crappy KJA book.

As to OT character deaths that are lame- I think the odd pointless death is a good thing.

Ackbar's death had been foreshadowed by his declining health in Destiny's Way. Mon Mothma was noted as having recently died as of Star by Star, with the NEGTC staring she too had died of natural causes shortly before the invasion had begun.

Okay, I kind of walked into that one.

So General Veers, Ackbar offscreen, Mon Mothma offscreen and sometime previously, and Palpatine entirely too many times.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (and probably Yoda too) by Tim Zahn.

Of course they were already dead, but I mean he made up something about their spirits "going away" never to return. ; P

Obi-Wan and Anakin did return in the last NJO book.

Interesting. Take that Timmy!

Not sure what's worse though, killing off main characters, or resurrecting them...

Obi-Wan "spoke" to Luke while Anakin Skywalker spoke to Jacen.

Anakin didn't say much other than "Stand Firm"

IG-88, I think Fett fragged that one in his ship, the IG-2000. And another bounty hunter from ESB, I forget his name, but Mara kills him I believe, in his Duology.

Wasn't that Sekot? Taking the shape of Anikin?
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Yes and no. Jacen heard the voice of Anakin directing him to stand firm during the final confrontation with Onimi. Luke heard Obi-Wan's voice as Zonama Sekot departed for unknown regions.

I thought that Luke THOUGHT it was Obi-wan's voice, but wasn't sure?

Anyway, I never did figure out how Mon Mothma dies. All I know is that in a previous book (was it New Rebellion? Hated that book. Or was it Black Fleet Crisis? Hated those even more) she was retired and giving Leia advice. Then next thing we know, the book after Anakin's death they mentioned the 'late' Mon Mothma.

Perhaps she died on Coruscant? Or I missed the book she died in? I dunno.

As I stated earlier, her death was offscreen and explained in NEGTC as due to natural causes.

No, it was Anakin Skywalker that told Jacen to stand firm.
