Star Wars on IMAX rocks!

Post by Darth Wong »

Well, I just got back from seeing AOTC with Ted and Aerius (I don't know what happened to Specialist, but we hung around until 6:15pm and I had Ted check the ticket gate and we couldn't find him, so we had to bail; sorry).

The sound quality was great; I heard things I never heard before. And the image quality was fantastic; everything was so much sharper (the downside was that a few scenes such as the clonetrooper armoury scene looked really fake, because you could see very clearly on the giant screen where they'd taken shortcuts on the CGI).

Even the movie itself was better, because they cut out some of the scenes that dragged, like the scene where he meets the new Queen of Naboo, the scene in the meadow, or the scene where Palpatine decides that Anakin and Obi-Wan should be the ones assigned to protect Amidala.

So, in conclusion, get out and see AOTC on IMAX. It's worth the ticket.

Not to mention the cool IMAX intro with all the bells and whistles, and a laser show too. The best thing about it was that we didn't have to sit through any of those retarded sponsor's commercials or movie trailers. The IMAX intro was too funny! "and you can hear a needle drop" *ting*

I did not see the movie yet. Its playing on an IMAX in San Jose, so I gather it is worth seeing. I kinda did not like TPM very much, is AOTC a better movie?

Some people say it rocks and blows the first one away. Some people actually liked the first one better. I know two women who liked TPM better, one of whom thought it was "brilliant". Roger Ebert liked TPM better. However, MOST people say AOTC is a lot better.

Go see it on IMAX. It's not as if you'll have this chance again when it comes out on DVD; a DVD looks pretty good by home theatre standards, but it blows compared to IMAX.

I think Ebert really just didn't like how AotC was filmed, he's really against the digital filming process.

Yeah I believe I saw an ad in the San Jose Mercury for it at the San Jose Tech Mueum. The only other IMAX is at Great America and they are closed I believe by now.

Regarding the San Jose Tech Museum IMAX Star Wars...

I just saw it; it was pretty awesome. But I'd recommend seeing it on a flat screen IMAX if you can (the Tech has an IMAX Dome).

While the IMAX Dome makes normal IMAX movies better, it made AOTC pretty confusing at parts. The problem was that the movie wasn't directed for playing on such a screen, so it's pretty hard to see what's going on during some scenes because of the dome shape.
But if you don't get a chance to go up to the Metreon or the Dublin IMAX (the two other ones in the Bay Area), definitely take this opportunity at the Tech.

TrailerPark, if you haven't seen the movie at all yet, I recommend buying or renting the DVD or VHS (available Tuesday the 12th) and watching it first at home, so you understand what's going on. Then you can use the IMAX experience to absorb all the little details you may have missed, and you won't be distracted by trying to follow the story for the first time.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

It really rocked man, got home at midnight and had to crash. On the way home on the subway, the car I got into had AotC stuff pinted all over the sides, and all the posters on the inside were AotC as well, really ironic.

The nearest IMAX theater form where I live is an hour's drive to Pittsburgh, adn I don't think they'll be playing it there, because it's at the Carnegie Science Center.
