I'll keep this short. I was on the cliff by the red base in Blood Gulch, and was forced to jump off. While I was falling to the ground, I saw a guy running in the rocks (where the shotgun spawns) near the blue base. Without thinking, I pulled the trigger and plinked him in the face. It kicked ass and was well worth listening to a punk call me a hacker for the rest of the game.
hehe, yeah, cause it's just so easy to hack an X-box!Losonti Tokash wrote:I'll keep this short. I was on the cliff by the red base in Blood Gulch, and was forced to jump off. Heh, I've played one Dreadnaught game.... on Coagulation, my score: 20 and 3 (only killed once as the Dreadnaught.) The closest to me? He had 5 kills. I got lucky too, there were 9 people in the game, but I happened to start as the Dreadnaught... and near the rocket launcher. With unlimited ammo, that pissed people off.Losonti Tokash wrote:Dreadnought+Ascension+16 people=hilarity.
Seriously, I walked into the dish and ran into 8 or 9 people. It was the gunbattle that would not end.
Oh yeah, and the whole running faster with permanent overshields helps too.

Ah, yes. Shotgun and rocket launcher seem to be the best combo for a juggernaught. Fun thing to do on ascension is grab the rocket, go up the grav lift, and blast the crap out of people while you're flying through the air. Even better if you nail the sniper that's always either in the roost or the command tower.Isil`Zha wrote:Heh, I've played on Dreadnought game.... on Coagulation, my score: 20 and 1. The closed to me? Well, having found the stats for that particular game, I had a the Rocketlauncher/Sniper-rifle combo. So most of the time I ran into the hills and picked off people with the rifle, then took out ones that were getting close and had found me.Losonti Tokash wrote: Ah, yes. It also helped that anyone that jumped in a vehicle was screwed as well.
And oh yeah, when I got it back and only needed 4 more kills or so I ran and picked up the RL again. Man I'm a bastard...

So folks, what did you think of the Arbiter? Personally, I thought he kicked ass, a character that blazed past the MC in terms of personality, background, and development. I love the fact the he's the exact opposite of the MC: instead of a super-soldier who has the best equipment money can buy, is feted as a hero, and has a whole gaggle of friends to watch his back, the Arbiter gets gear that is largely ceremonial, is treated as an outcast, and needs to win his fellow soldiers over before they even speak to him in a civil manner.
But that's what I like most about the Arbiter: he starts off cold and detatched, much like the MC, but slowly reaccustomes himself himself to society and manages to earn his friends over. The Sangheili captain who accompanies him through much of the game starts off treating him in an insulting fashion, even telling him to his face that he doesn't give a damn if the Arbiter lives or dies. But by the time the last level rolls around, he's come to trust the Arbiter and repeatedly goes out of his way to keep his fellow soldier safe. As events intervene, the Arbiter even forms an alliance with Sgt. Johnson, Commander Keyes (what's her first name? I forgot.), and Guilty Spark, of all people.
Oh, I'd like to make one tiny note here before I finish: pumping dozens and dozens of explosive needles into Tartarus felt really, really good.

Oh yeah, at one point I hijacked the guy in the Banshee and only used it to get myself to the other side of the map.

As for the rest, yes, the Arbiter does rule... I wish you could use his armor for your character model in multiplayer! (people have asked, and Bungie said that it could be a possibility in a future update.) I dunno, I'd still rather play as MC though.... though active-camo at your fingertips at almost anytime is nice too.
Don't get me wrong though, I still like playing as the Arbiter as well.... as I've heard that some people didn't like Halo 2's story that much because of playing as the Arbiter.

MC fanboys. *waves hand dismissively* Introducing a new character gave the game new direction and depth in ways that I would never have predicted. It helped to explain the story and presented a brand-new Covenant POV which was most definately welcome instead of keeping them as t3h evil space nazi crusaders they were before.Isil`Zha wrote:Don't get me wrong though, I still like playing as the Arbiter as well.... as I've heard that some people didn't like Halo 2's story that much because of playing as the Arbiter.

Exactly, I love seeing things from the Covenant persepctive (if you have the LE, even the manual is written from their perspective.) Gave us a lot more info on them, so they weren't so mysterious and unknown. It was also definatly needed for us to know what's going on with the Covenant when their civil war starts up.... (don't spoil anything, I've been sucked into multiplayer and still haven't finished it. heh.)Kuja wrote:

How many people here play with Radar?? I never play with radar at LAN's. Online is different but when ever possible we shut it off. If you can't handle snipers then just get better at hunting them down. I mean damn this is a big smoke trailer than you can easly follow. Granted on smaller maps it is easlier to follow than on big maps but still, taking down snipers isn't that hard. Fight fire with fireKuja wrote:Nothing makes my temper shoot through the roof faster than a sniper. My buddy used to rack up kills in the teens using the sniper rifle to the point where everyone made an agreement saying he was barred from using it in the future. The irritating part about a sniper is that if they hide properly and keep an eye on their radar, about the only thing that can bring them down is another sniper, which makes the game irritating as hell for people like me who prefer to blaze away at point-blank range.

I will, admit that the single game was a little disappointing, but you have to consider the huge hype and high hopes given to me. But on the flip side the XBOX LIVE ability makes up for it in spades IMHO. I love playing online and will continue my subscription after my free two month trial is over.

The single game was a blast and MP is fantastic. I would try out the LIVE if I had the time for it.
For me the best part of the Arbitar missions is they added a layer to the foe to show you that they aren't just the Flood with a different skin. Hell I sorta want the flood to be forgotten and have the two sides have more time devoted to them.

I was rather hoping that the Flood weren't going to be in this one.... but now they're back, can take more punishment, and can be brought back to life by Flood Spores. Interestingly, I learned that either the Fuel Rod Gun has a gigantic blast area, or Sentinels hit by it send out waves of EMP or something- try the Fuel Rod Gun Endurance Challenge (tm) to see it in action.
On The Arbiter, land on a platform with FRGrunts, and fill your ammo up. Then, proceed to Oracle. Use the Energy Sword to kill until you reach the Elevator.
Now, use only the Fuel Rod Gun in that little space with enemies that explode violently or run straight at you until it runs out. Even on normal it gets interesting- Active Camo to recharge is a lifesaver. The entire thing is a patience thing, I guess. Even cross-elevator shots still drain your shields badly if you hit a sentinel...

I played on the campus LAN for about three or four hours last night. Firstly: No, I don't care how much you people like it, but Ivory Tower shall never be played by me willingly due to the fucktards who like to camp at the top of the elevator.
