I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

Reminds me of when 1,500 uncles were laid off last year in the UK. They just weren't able to be supported anymore by their nephews and nieces and so a decision was made.

Do they really need to get that extreme to have their kids do chores?

And if Social Services starts shit over this I'm gonna be more upset with their asses then I already am.

Well they have to do something! That poor 12 year old can't be expected to walk to school or to it's friends place!

*grin* Some people just can't handle kids, I guess. I wonder what it'd be like to not be able to resolve conflicts? hmmmmm.....

Hmm, if anything it seems extremely weak. The kids don't do the chores so they get to live in the house without parents, cook their own meals. Only downside is having to walk everywhere.

I'm surprised they had the courage to go through with something like that. I really do sympathize with their position, too. Kids can be a handful, and I hope that they get what they're after quickly so they can go back to being a family, again.

I was with my staff sergeant for a day with his kids - they acted like little marines.

teaching kids bootcamp style must have worked somehow.

I suspect that most children would be sufficiently shamed by the sight of their parents doing that that it would provide temporary results, but not permanent ones.

The only striking my parents did was with the back of their hand. Far smaller effort with far more effective and lasting results.

Parents need to relearn the joys of smacking their children. Cry, all you want, it's effective, carries the element of surprise, and if you have the restraint neccesary to be an effective parent, not at all scarring (at least it never hurt me, straightened me out good though). Parents think everything is a oneshot deal, you've got to use both negative and positive reinforcement so that they get the point over time.

*Sigh* Of course I am not a parent myself, so I don't have any perspective other than how various disciplinary methods worked to get me to stop lying etc. Take such evidence as you will... :?

By the time I'm a parent, I won't be allowed to smack my kids because it will be illegal.

This has been goingon for several days. Made the local news here. And walper has it right, striking is done with the hand or the belt. I have "The look" Down. I can glare at my daughter and establish a telepathic link telling her what she is doing wrong, and she HANGS HER HEAD IN SHAME, GRASSHOPPER!

Two sides to every story, you know. If those kids are anything like my brother, then the parents have my pity. If the parents are anything like mine and many others, then I have a fiddle to loan them.

For one thing, the older kid is seventeen and the daughter is 12. Their parents sitting in front of their house picketing them just might be humiliating enough for the daughter at least to change her behavior and the seventeen year is much more likely to move out at eighteen then. When it comes time to pay for college, he'll have alot more respect.

This isn't abuse, this is clever. It's not like cooking, cleaning, and driving their kids around is child abuse. The older one at least should be able to do all of that stuff already except for possibly driving. I mean, my mother only cooked dinner when I was seventeen and the rest of my meals I prepared for myself generally. If he is the lazy bastard Show me the parents hitting them for not doing chores and I'll call it child abuse. Sitting in front of their house with some postersboards saying "Parents on Strike!" isn't.

I have no sympathy for the children - if these were little kids I would, but these kids are old enough to cooperate with their parents.
