I bet $10 over paypal that they'll end up trying to hack and vandalize our board in the end.

$50 that we'll all be banned from RR in less than a week.

Place your bets now, gentlemen!

If you want to have fun with RR then you ought to post stuff like this and watch their reaction. They'll ban you before they let you argue, so you might as well let them make fools of themselves on their own.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Always possible (although it's also possible the whole story is just a pure fabrication, like Darwin's mythical deathbed recantation).

It reminds me of the "there are no atheists in foxholes" line. Even if it were true (and Perinquus assures me it's not, and he would know since he was an atheist in a foxhole), it would only indicate that Christianity is more appealing to someone who is under extreme emotional duress, rather than being in a rational state of mind.

I thought the "there are no atheists in foxholes" line was an argument against foxholes not atheists? 8)

So he's slipping into Deism, not a big deal. Someone should email him the article about sugars being found in space and point out in our universe it is pretty damn likely for life to form.

I've got an old book laying around that did some fairly deep statistical analysis of WW2, and the 'atheists in the foxholes' topics was one of the matters it covered.

While the random death of war can drive some people to religion, it can also have the opposite effect. The nature of war can cause people to lose faith in the notion of an omnibenevolent god quite easily, because there's no justice, logic, or sense to it.

Speaking as a Deist, that doesn't really dissuade. Hell, I found it pretty spiritually invigorating and wonder-provoking, the idea our little existance is teeming with life.

It's hard to dissuade a Deist. It's not like there is an interventionalist god or a ridiculous virgin birth to mock. There's just a "created the universe at the beginning and he's spent all of time on his sofa with a bucket of popcorn watching the whole thing unfold" assertation.

Creating a universe is the ultimate science experiment.

Unfortunately, those who crow that this hypothesis is unfalsifiable tend to be ignorant of the fact that it is also completely useless and unnecessary.

Bawhahaha! Behold words of true wisdom.

On a side note, it's not exactly unheard of for those closing in on death to suddenly shift their views favoring "afterlife".

There was no one moment of change but a gradual conclusion over recent months for Flew, a spry man who still does not believe in an afterlife.
Expect he doesn't believe in an Afterlife, Walper. For shame, you had to have this pointed out to you by a Christain? Hang your head down low.

Nothing LESS could convince me of the power of brain lobotomy.
You have to realize that most Christian "moral values" behaviour is not really about "protecting" anyone; it's about their desire to send a continual stream of messages of condemnation towards people whose existence offends them. - Darth Wong alias Mike Wong

Some of us have been over there for years, cleaning out their Apologetics forum on a regular basis.

While the creationists still crow, the flock is smaller, so there's some good from it.
