The Best thing about Star Wars

Post by Tychu »

Im talking about your favorite thing of the great Star Wars saga. EU, movies, anything, what makes the space opera great?

playing KOTOR II this morning sparked my intrest in the topic to ask you guys what is the best thing in Star Wars.

For me its the droids. Every droid. Every era has its R2 and 3PO.
The droids always look weak, though they are very resourceful and have the courage to do anything they seem fit (the ones without good memmory wipes) theres a mistique to them as to why they do things.

Now i know you force/magical lovers out there will call me an idiot and what not, but what will Jedi do without the droids? There ships will break down and Anakin will never have been discoverd have it not for R2 fixing the queens shield generator in TPM

The Force is what I like best about Star Wars. It is a magical thing that I really appreciate. The Force seperates Star Wars from other space operas like Star Trek. It puts Star Wars in a league of it is own.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

The "lived in" quality of the universe. The fact that the ships weren't all sleek and "futuristic"-looking, and that many of them had clearly seen better days. The fact that the universe is displayed neither as a perfect utopia, nor as a distopian hell-hole, but rather as a place where people generally go about their lives as they do now, just with spaceships, robots, and big, furry aliens that can rip your arms out of their sockets (yet are still counted among the heroes and given reasonably well-developed personalities.)

Gotta love the Imp Ships.

My favorite the Sith/ Dark Jedi. Just the Evil people that would destroy entire planets and races just to prove a point.

Oh soo Evil.

I can't really think of a single factor that would really stand out... as a whole the setting, characters and overall atmosphere came together well. I suppose that it could be said that my take on the matter is that Star Wars is more then the sum of it's parts, well the OT at least, prequels and EU less so.

The "feel" of the universe.

I'm not very good at explaining these things, but there's a certain feeling I get sometimes when I play a Star Wars game, watch a SW film or read an SW book.
KOTOR was gave me this feeling throughout the whole game. That's probably why it's one of my favourite games ever.

God bless you my man. Genocide, Xenocide, slaughtering of the innocent? No problem, just give me command of one of those ImpII SD's!!

I'd be one of the Emperor's favorites I think, morality? What's that? Give me cool toys and I'll go pacify that sector for you.

*snap-hiss-vmmmmmmmmmmmm*

I love lightsabres. I love lightsabre duels, I like how they sound when they're turned on, I love how they can bring swashbuckling romance to a series of movies about spaceships and robots. Just awesome.

My favorite thing was always the Empire as a whole, I mean, it's military might and everything that was included within the military.

I love how all the planets are unique and believable environments were strange civilizations can thrive. I love looking at the differing architecture of all the worlds we see in the movies.

And of course, I love TEH ST4R SH1PS!!!!!!!1111

Jar Jar Binks is a masterpiece of characterisation. Lucas loves him, and so do I.

It's all of the above - Star Wars feels real, the people, the technology, the history. People react to it (in the movies) as if it's part of everyday life, and don't go on long monologues about why their society is so great.

As for me... well, that the SW galaxy has so much potential for stories. It's a melange of sci-fi and sword & sorcery, and as such really broke new ground.

How everything flows, and its a real world, with crappy ships and shitty people, not just the best and brightest.

Also, the entire thing that while most don't like, but I enjoy, the 'kids movie' feel, blended with a great mature story.

My mistake. I'll just rectify the problem in the same way a friend of mine did in an RPG session: break jaw, insert thermal detonator, throw down air shaft.

Let's see your awesome TK might handle that, Horn. *chuckles*

No reason to take it out on me. He aint Horn I AM!!!!!!!!

And if you threw that at me you will taste the fll force of a Jedi gone Dark!!!!!!

If aimed at him then continue dont let me hold you back.

Another great thing about the starwars Universe is the way Lucas and the Writers from EU have set it up so MOST of it runs smoothly together. Giving us a better total story.
