Kevin Smith and Mark Hamill are doing the pilot for a new weekly Star Wars series. It'll feature Hamill as Skywalker in a 'pop up now and then' role, but mostly, it's new characters, set in the same world as the films.Lots of talk about it here, but don't expect anything until Episode III is out. Its a go project, but I don't think there's much on it yet.

Bullshit, or not?

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

The biggest problem I can see with NJO is simply that, to people who haven't read the books in between, it'll seem EXTREMELY contrived. Clone Wars rages, good guys die. Civil War rages, bad guys die. Vong wars rage, good and bad guys die.
Additionally, one of the things I liked about NJO is how they brought back a lot of planets or people that had just appeared in a few books and disappeared, kind of wrapping up the entire EU. There were a lot of hidden references to other books. It was pretty cool. But people who haven't read those books will be COMPLETELY lost.
But we nerds who have read them will love it
I seriously hope, though, that it follows SOMETHING from the EU (Rogue Squadron? NJO? Dunno) and doesn't completely contradict canon

My money will be on the era between ROTS and ANH. It's likely from a continuity and marketing standpoint for Lucasfilm (if not necessarily Uncle George).
"We've finished with a bang at the Rise of the Empire, we're sure the audience would like to see what happens to the rest of the galaxy at that point."
Or some crud like that, I'd think.
EDIT: If we're talking about Luke's appearance, I hope to god they overwrite the year that Crystal Star is set in.

Mmmmmmm, Rogue Squadron... If Luke is popping in from time to time but is not a regular character, it could easily be about some of the Rebellion's grunts. I mean, the entire desperate escape of the Rebel evacuees is kind of skipped over in ESB in favor of following Luke's training and the Falcon being pursued, for starters. With the Rebels on the run like that, surely other Imperial forces would be scrambled to intercept while the Death Squadron pursued the Falcon.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Reliable insiders think this is pure fanwank. Sorry. =/
I´m guessing the series will most likely take place between ROTS and ANH, I even think one of the insiders hinted at such when talking about ROTS, that there were a couple of plotpoints that could be built upon in such a series. (I´m guessing Mon Mothma, Bail and other senators preparing to fight the Empire.)

I'm not really so hot for Kevin Smith. He seems a bit overrated and fannish to me. And for an unknown reason he strikes me as a minimalist.
Then again, since this is more than likely false, I doubt it at all...

I believe in a sign of Zeta.

I've been hoping for quite some time to see a screen treatment of the rs books. Week by week serial would work well for the charecters ans situations. Also, it'd be fun to see them take Coruscant.

"Millions" or not, he still strikes me as someone whose overall going to turn out as a minimalist in the large perspective.
That and he's just simply purely fannish and quite overrated.

Which could in and of itself (Not even taking into consideration the minimalist aspects of his film making) "enterpriseify" Star Wars. please GOD let someone who has some goddamned respect for continuity take this project, I BEG OF YOU!Spanky The Dolphin wrote:That and he's just simply purely fannish and quite overrated.

The only way a SW series could avoid bombing horribly was if the plot was basically insignificant in the grand scheme of the SW storyline...e.g. something like Medstar or a fighter squadron (but not RS...they were too important)...

I'd prefer Wong's series, because it's finished, and wouldn't take a dozen years to finish.darthdavid wrote:You know what would be awsome? If the "same universe" stuff was just a psych out and they're really making a Starcrossed mini series...

I really hope we don't get any minimalism
