Mallok got onto the Vox quickly. "This is Mallok. Inf'irmary under at'tack."
"We're coming, Shaper." Sgt. Slate replied.

A few minutes later Sgt. Slate's crew had set up tube charges in the hallways. Mallok and Slate organised a defensive perimiter while Slate's medic did what he could for the wounded.

Xerxes woke with a start, snapping his head upwards. "Medic! Get in here!"
He saw a startled medic rush in with a syringe in hand. "Judge Xerxes, you must rest! You've had seizures and-" Xerxes reached up with his naked hand and tore the medic's throat out before he could react. Blood puddled on the floor and on his arm.

He stood up uneasily, regaining his balance a few seconds later. He was in a white-washed infirmary. All the beds were empty. He growled and stalked into the back room, where he saw his armor and personal items hung on a rack. He slipped into his armor quickly, yanking on his gun holster and belt.
His power sword was inside a storage cabinet on the other side of the room. He powered it on experimentally, turned it off, and tucked it into his back scabard.
He heard the medic's vox set crackle with a distorted voice. "Ragan, we're bringing in some wounded, get the beds prepped!" Xerxes heard the distant stomping of feet.
Crouching by the side of the way, he waited until the other medics ran into the room with their blood-soaked patients, before striking lightning fast.
His sword scythed through their unarmored bodies with ease, crackling merrily as the blood vaporized on the sword's power field.
The first corpse hadn't even fallen to the floor when he was done.

Engelier listened to the pirated vox report. "This is Mallok. Inf'irmary under at'tack." "We're coming, Shaper."

"Infirmary... where is that relative to our position?" he asked his tech-wizard, who quickly called up the schematics on his dataslate.

"One level up, down this length of corridor," the operator said, showing him the schematic.

"Synnove, I'll take some troops up there. You secure the landing bay and stand by for further orders."

She started to protest, but kept her mouth shut as he drew his power sword. The smart course would be to withdraw, especially with word of Traitor Marines on the prowl, but she knew better than to suggest it.

"Matrick, Vorn, your teams with me," he ordered his troops, moving out.

Vizilgar drove the cult-slaves through the long corridors, once killing a straggler with his hands. Twice they faced Imperial opposition and twice they had been slaughtered without mercy. Almost all of his troops now had projectile weapons. Soon they would hit the infirmery with its hundreds of helpless victims.

"Emperor's mercy," Vorn said, beholding the trail of carnage. "This is insane."

"Matrick, do you remember that time on Chandler IX?" Engelier asked as he surveyed a body that had been torned to shreds.

"Too damn well, skipper," the veteran naval armsman replied.

"Think that we're going to need some more people for this one, indeed," Engelier announced. He clicked over to the vox channel for Synnove, ordering the bulk of his forces up. A plan was forming for a heavy hammerblow to the rear of the enemy forces, hopefully pinning them between themselves and the infirmary defenders.

"Brother Gervassius?" he queried over the vox.

"Y-y-yes captain?"

"Some prayers would be in order. We're facing the archenemy here. Let the troops hear the voice of the Emperor before we go into action."

"At once, sir," the chaplain answered, his voice firming up as he began reciting litanies of strength and courage over the vox. The lad was solid as could be when he didn't have time to think about what he was doing.

The tube charges went off as the first of the Cultists passed the threshhold; More were incinerated with Meltas and shot down by the Kroot.

Krill raised himself up. Blood was slathered all over the cargo bays in seemingly random smears. Krill himself was drentched in it. The wounded his men had captured now served as sacrifices to the Blood God. A bloody haze appeared before the magus as eight acolytes continued chanting. Three red skinned humanoids stepped out of the mist. There mishappen but powerful forms strode foreward out of the mist. In their hands they gripped fearsome hellblades. The Bloodletters of Khorne had come.

The troops were gathered, weapons readied. Engelier marched down the line, slapping shoulders encouragingly. "Sergeant, let's get moving," he voxed.

Synnove gave the order, and the troops advanced toward the rear of the chaos forces moving on the infirmary.

Vizilgar launched frag grenades foreward at the infirmary's defenders. It endangered the battle fodder, but so what? That's what they were for. Those melta guns were actually dangerous, but slow firing and clusmy. Best to let the fodder fight them.

"Grenades!" The Meltas were redirected on them. Meanwhile, behind the CSM, a Kroot snuck out of an air vent and began laying a string of Meltabombs behind the monstrosity...

The Bloodletters loaped foreward after the Rogue Trader's forces. Their tongues lolled at the thought of impending slaughter. Soon they would stab and cut and tear and pierce and bite and chew and rake and rip and bathe in blood and feast on the dying. Soon they would be immersed in carnage. Unconsciously, they increased their pace. Behind them came the remainder of Magus Krill's forces. Only the death of the Rogue Trader's forces would be sufficient to attone for his failure to hold the dock.

The Kroot retreated to a safe distance and set off the Meltas directly behind the CSM.

The troops from the Wager were well shielded, locked and loaded, and possessed of fire support from two assault shuttles. As the chaos forces entered the bay, they opened fire, laying down a withering barrage that would have deterred anything human.

Unfortunately, their opponents were not human...
-----------
Above, the expeditionary force hove into sight of the chaos army just as the meltabombs detonated.

"Sergeant... the word is go," Engelier said with a smile as he aimed his bolt-pistol.

"Alright you motherless bastards, hit 'em!" Synnove bellowed across the vox, prompting the troops to open fire.

A huge blast of heat smashed into Vizilgar's back. He spun and saw that the corridor behind him had been slagged. No option for his forces to retreat. If he hadn't been pushing his troops foreward, he would have been fried. And whoever had boobytrapped the corridor had somehow done it without being detected.

Hmm. Best to pay attention to his motion tracker. He seized to cultists and told them to watch his back. Their deaths would make a nice warning system for him.

Even immortal flesh has limits. The first Bloodletter vanished in a cloud of fire, dissipating in a bloody mist. The second managed to close half the distance before falling, riddled by fire. The third managed to the line before falling.

Krill's forces took the time to secure positions and fire upon the Trader's armsmen. Krill had bigger fish to fry. A lash of bloody power came with the cultist, drawing attention to the man covered by a heavy engineering suite painted with crude runes. The lash lash melted the weapon emplacements of the assault shuttles, neutralizing their fearsome fire power. Casualties on both sides began to mount.

The infirmary defenders continued to pour fire into the cultists, but there seemed to be no end to them. They couldn't be allowed into an open space, that would be a massacre.

There was only so much the trader troops could do, and each loss on their side represented a serious loss of firepower, especially with the weapons from the shuttles removed from the mix.

"Get those damned shuttles out of here!" the surviving squad leader ordered. "Frizzt and I will cover!" he yelled as he sliced at an attacker with his chainsword. "Pull out!"

The survivors began withdrawing as best they could, covering each other as they tried to reboard the shuttles.

"Captain," the pilot of the second shuttle called in. "We are overwhelmed down here. Pulling out."

Before the landing ramps were even closed, the shuttles began lifting and backing out of the bay...

Krill couldn't believe it. He had actually driven them away. He was sure he was doomed when the Bloodletters had been slain without making a single kill. He looked around and saw the dead. They were scattered everywhere, most of them unrecognizable. Most of them his. He had taken this section of the docks and driven off the Rogue Trader, but at a cost. Such a high cost. He didn't have enough strength to hold it.

As the troops poured a hail of fire into the rearguard of the chaos warriors, Engelier absorbed the new grimly.

The die is cast, as they say.

"The shuttles had to pull out of the docking bay," he informed Synnove on the private channel.

"Losses?" she voxed back.

"Unknown as yet. But start planning for an EVA extraction, if it comes to that."

The Jackal screamed in desperation as the ship's controls failed yet again.
He slammed his fist into the ship's Nav console, punching a hole through the viewscreem.
The Inquisitor sighed, grabbed Brother Giton out of the air, and manually activated its Vocom unit.
"Inquisitor Rosanthor here. I'm the one in the floating pile of space garbage. Could I get a lift?"

Uschi contemplated the call. This was one of those decisions she was much happier for Engelier to make, but it was on her head. She nodded at the vox-tech to open the channel.

"This is lieutenant commander Uschi Valk of the Fool's Wager. Moving to render assistance, inquisitor."

She looked across the bridge. "Assembled the honor guard." Beyond armed crewmembers, the honor guard were the last remaining combat troops on the ship. Between them and the automated defenses, if this was a trap, they could at least guarantee it to be quite unpleasant for the would-be trappers.

One of the Cultists attacking the infirmary was puzzled at his Auspex' readings; Then he realised. "They're in the walls! They're in the-"
Grenades rained in from the walls; THe Kroot had doubled back through the ventillation system.

Vizilgor cursed. The auspex readings were inconsistent with ratlings but what else could be so quick, stealthy, and capable of moving in confined spaces? Well he didn't have infinite amounts of battle fodder and his troops were dying all over the place. He checked his auspex and then fired his bolter into the duct system, putting bursts into every likely location. This was getting seriously unpleasant. And he hadn't even reached the inquisitors yet and they never went easy.

One of the Kroot screeched as it got a Bolter round in his gut. Mallok stuck his borrowed Plasma Pistol out of the hole near him and returned fire on the place the shots had come from.

"I have an idea," Engelier said. Synnove didn't respond- in the past she'd said those words usually made chills go up her spine. He grinned as he remembered just how delectable the spine in question was, trailing down... mmm...

"Drop lines. Let's get down to the next level. I want melta-bomb troops and an auspex operator. And a heavy weapons team. Move!"

Engelier didn't wait, jumping down to the next level himself. The ancient machinery of the powered armor handled the shock of landing with ease and grace, only rattling his teeth in his head a bit. In the zone, that was nothing...
