I asked Sgt. Slate about whether he would wish to attack 2 Traitor Marines, and he replied thusly:

It works fine. Since we are all covering the same events from different view points it just adds to the feeling of multiple witnesses telling slightly different stories.

Well, it does happen to be one of the most crucial bits of the station, and there don't seem to be any other named characters able to do it (well, apart from Engelier, but he only just got there...).
