As to what I'd say to God:
If he turns out to be the 'infinite perfection' being, commonly mislabeled as the Christian god by many philosophers:
"Well, it's nice to know you failed to present yourself as anything other than an institutional invention for holding power and fund-raising, leaving me to become an atheist based on what I was given. Of course, none of my musings matter to your omnisentience, do they? You knew I wouldn't find any reason to believe in you, and created me anyway. Hope you enjoy the rest of your pointless puppet show, even thought you've always known how it ends, you sadistic basard."
If he turns out to be what the Christian god is based on:
"Hello, El-Shaddai, how's the charade going? Are you kind of dissapointed that your old following has been distorted so much in 4000 years, or are you pleased to steal away believers from your rival gods, regardless of how well they know you? Well, probably the latter, come to think of it, sinse the whole thing started with the 'I created life and the world' Genesis lie of yours to the Canaanites. Did you plan this whole Christianity thing, or was that unintentional? Which mountain did you come from? How is Astarte doing these days? Can you really make blood into wine?" etc, etc. I'd really like to get to know just how accurate this finite deity truly would be compared to the bible, assuming any of it's real, obviously.

Damn. All the good stuff has been said already. Well, if there is a deity of the universe, I'll just say, "Hi. Where have you been for the past 10,000 years?"

God's typical reply to "where were you when..?" will be "Where were you when I made the world..?" But that is neither here nor there.
Verilon, there is no purgatory or similar waiting rooms. Sheol for coming ot grips with past responsibilites, and then Kingdom of Heaven. A third possibility exists with the possibilit of reincarnation, genearlly believed to be an old soul that has some important thing to do or learn.
And Judaism's age is older than that of Christianity, but there are the ancient practices, which go back to the earliest times and include the Hebrews' first entry into Egypt and still retained a lot of polytheism (the nature/spring god Tammuz, and the Bull). So one could argue that there was a 'pre-Judaism' that is older than the modern practices as we know it, just as America existed for years under the Articles of Confederaion before evolving into its recognizable form, the United States.

I know I do! I'm this board's resident Atheist who insists that (in terms of religion), the Canaanite following of El-Shaddai is more valid than it's offshoot cult of Christianity.Coyote wrote:So one could argue that there was a 'pre-Judaism' that is older than the modern practices as we know it

Damn, coming a little late, but I suppose I would try to argue with God about how evil he was. And while I was at it I would point out every evil thing he did and call him a bastard. I'd be content to roast in hell with that off of my chest.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this.
I'd ask just one question. "Which one are you?"

The way Milton described it, Eve was actually the first scientist, she asked "why" and when viewed objectively, she was the first one to challenge God and his law. The serpent challenged her to eat the apple of the tree and she asked him why, and why it was thathe had the power of spech when other animals did not. Satan, in the guise of the serpent, said that he had eaten one of the apples and so attained human sentience, so imagine what it would do for her.
The serpent told Eve that if it did this much for him, then surely it would give her the knowledge of the angels themselves; to comprehend good and evil. So Eve considerd this, ate the apple, and convinced Adam to do the same. The way Milton described it, Adam's first response was emotion-- to obey the law of God. But, he knew that if Eve ate the apple, she was destined to die, and he was devoted to her and determined ot share her fate.
So Eve was smart and dynamic, Adam was loving and devoted... and then God shows up to punish them for falling into his trap! And he curses the snake, even though the poor dumb beast had been forcibly controlled by Satan to act as he did! I told them in class that "God is portrayed as a real son of a bitch"... which the instructor, a self-proclaimed athiest, seemed to find amusing...

Okay, then, but there is a new life after this one life. Therefore, it CAN technically be called an afterlife.salm wrote:but reincarnation is not after mortal life, it´s a new life.
if you´re saying that there is a afterlife between the lives, that would make sence.

Balls in your court. Either your an open minded rational being, or your a sadistic creature for knowing what was going to happen before you even created me and done nothing to stop it.

ok, so what´s your point? that if you dont live your life according to [insert favorite religion] you´re not going to gain access to a reincarnation?verilon wrote:It may be irrelevant, but we're not looking at past lives, are we?salm wrote:well, you can but it doesnt make sense. let´s say you die. you go to the afterlife in gods realm.verilon wrote: Okay, then, but there is a new life after this one life. No, just that you will be reincarnated. THey don't care what religion you are. Reincarnation is to better yourself throught each life until you achieve your spreme state. THis is sounding very Biddhist, yes? Anyways, religion doesn't dictate reincarnation in this case. In fact, there ARE some that remember past lives.salm wrote:ok, so what´s your point? that if you dont live your life according to [insert favorite religion] you´re not going to gain access to a reincarnation?verilon wrote:It may be irrelevant, but we're not looking at past lives, are we?

"God, you are fired"...
Now, Coyote, Scietists dont challenge God rules. It was the mostly unfortunate happening they found out that he does not exist...
(Neither science was the first and only doctrine to challenge god)...
Plus, the cool thing about Lost Paradise is Satan. He rules. His inicial chapter, when he made a spech to all fallen angels when arrives hell is awesome. Sadly, he was so cool, that Milton almost make him a hero and had to shrink his character in the end of the book, otherwise everyone else would be asking why not to follow Satan...and that poor Milton did not wanted...

Satan really does seem to emerge as a hero-- he used Parliamentary proceedure and delegation of authority to set up Pandemonium, whereas God just dictated his desires. Of course, it is also shown that Satan only called on select fallen angels that would support him so in a way the vote was thrown from the beginning... but then, that's a parliament for you...
Yah, I find it kinda ironic that science started out as a branch of religion for the purpose of proving belief. If the priests had been less pig-headed, they'd have gone along with everything the scientists said, saying, "Wow, God's much more thoughtful and rational that even we had thought!" and kept everything quiet and happy, but ooohhh, NO! they had to insist on that silly-ass 7-day Creation and "Dinosaurs are fake" claptrap...
Religion wins the "Not seein' the handwriting on the wall" award.
