Be glad you've never seen slides of what an Ovarian cyst looks like, it makes my skin crawl. They do tend to be benign though.

I have actually. They are gross. My friend has a problem with these a couple years back.

Ovarian cysts are known for growing to extremely large sizes. Most of the time they're removed before getting too large (before they reach tens of pounds), but sometimes they grow quickly and/or a woman doesn't or can't get medical treatment or examination and she ends up with a huge tumor that needs to be removed. A story like this gets reported every few months or so.

Just as a note for all you men out there who may read this and feel some relief that you do not have ovaries, I am here to inform you that there is a disease called elephantiasis which can cause testicles to swell in size up to about the same dimensions as watermelons, or sometimes even larger.

Oh, and just in case anyone was wondering - the 200lb tumor lady didn't have an ovarian cyst, she has neurofibratosis (which I'm sure I've spelled wrong) and has been growing tumors and having them removed all her life - it's just that this one was apparently in a difficult spot for removal and grew very quickly.

I also wouldn't be surprised if there were some docs who shrugged and figured she'd just grow more tumors so why bother going through all the trouble of removing one? Wouldn't surprise me a bit - some docs are quite callous. But I'm glad she found a surgeon who was able to help her.

That was exactly what happened, her doctor recommended she not have it removed, and then it started growing at its insane rate and by the time she went back again it was so big that she had trouble.
