That depends. I think some of those guys are morons. You have irrefutable proof based on canon that the SSD is 17.6km long, and they run crying to their official poorly researched bullshit that its 12.8km (and before that, 8km). Fuck them, Saxton scaled it- its 17.6. End of story. One of them actually took the ridiculous position that:

- Models are built to decieve
- Therefore, the WEG version of the SSD is more accurate, because it is 'in-universe' and the models aren't.

Dumbfucks.

Then of course you've got the cocknockers saying Saxton's ICS sucks because it had too much technobabble. WTF?! All the 'technobabble' was relegated to a small box on the corner of each section- filled with pertinent, exact information that both previous ICS ignored (hell the previous ones didnt even list ARMAMENT) along with calculations.

Perhaps it never occured to them that the very reason Saxton got tapped was because Lucasfilm found his work to be impressive?

I do not have any Star Wars ICS and I have never read any either. Perhaps I should go out and buy one so I can see what certain people consider "technobabble". As I admittedly speak from my own ignorance on this matter, some "technobabble" is ok, I mean, I would enjoy knowing how crap "works" in a Sci-fi world. I do have the Star Trek Technical manual for the E-D, and for the most part, I thought it was ok.

His point was that the "technobabble" was not really technobabble: it wasn't made up pseudo-science bullshit by some melodrama porn writer a la ST.

He actually came up with some rough ideas for the how, and did some appropriate calcs researched from the movie.

You didn't actually respond to any of my points, especially the ones about being Saxton's personal defense shield, or why on earth you have to "disprove" someone's OPINION of an author or book. Care to do so? WithOUT bringing up SSD data, this time?

Context: discussing the quality of the ICS, Syntax dismissed Saxton as an 'ignorant prick'. I pointed out how his methodology was correct, and Syntax' methodology (that the official universe can be used to override the films- an example of his ridiculous position being that 8km overrules the canon 17.6km) was patently absurd.

I then said:

Oh, excuse me, I thought this was an internet board, not North Korea. Isn't a forum about OPINIONS? Clearly, you are a facist[spelling error]. I didn't like the OPINION posted, so I posited my own OPINION.

The admin appears to have weighed in on my side- as a fellow Aussie he didn't take kindly to one of our astrophysicists being called an 'ignorant prick'.

He, at least, seemed even handed. He did warn everyone of personal attacks on the forum. Ah SD.net, its this kind of thing that makes me glad you're here
