You would think the estate as an asset would beat any potential lump sum of money.
Is Elvis' daughter a complete idiot?

She once married Michael Jackson, didn't she? You have to ask?
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

Her marriage to Michael aside, it could be that she is making a good move here. The estate is currently in debt which will get forgiven under the deal, she gets a whack of cash and she still gets to keep an interest in the corp that gets the estate. If that corp is run profitably, then she gets some of that which could be much more than she currently gets.

The critical part of the transaction is that she gets to keep most of the momentoes of her father including the house (which I would think far more important thant the right to name something after Elvis...christ if I wanted to I can name my kid Elvis Presley it ain't that important). Moreover she gets to keep, as was said, interest in the company executing his recording rights and other merchandising rights which frees her of that burden and places it into a company built for that while still cutting her into potential profits. Really I think its win/win.

"I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. I have seen too much religion in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness. "

after reading the article it looks like she made a smart move, but that is just my opinion. I think the two big factors why she sold are 1) it relieves the debt of the estate and 2) now she doesn't have to worry about being soley responsible for how the estate is marketed.
