As far as I can tell, based on fluff

1) Promising students at Schola are evaluated and tested and then sent for inquisitional training.

2) They graduate as interrogators where they serve inquisitors and learn the trade.

3) After serving well they are nominated by their master and if they pass their evaluation, they become inquisitors.

Well, from my understanding we're on the planet at one of the hives, so Pater can't just drop in...

But they do have backup in the form of some armsmen who are busy closing in on the scene. You can play them.

Okay, thanks. What does this evaluation involve? And am I correct in assuming, from the name, that the primary duty of an Interrogator is to question prisoners and so on?

Interrogator is just a title. They act like junior inquisitors or as the inquisitors gopher/muscle/pawns depending on their job. In one formal function a senior inquisitor had half a dozen interrogators carrying his gear on velvet cushions. That does include interrogating people.

The examination is never directly described. Interrogators are promoted to being inquisitor and the fluff implies that multiple inquisitors are involved in making the decision.

Neural shreddar is what they are now calling Neural Disrupters. Big area of effect, scrambles synapes. Incapacitates, doesn't kil unless massive doses, or unlucky. The strong minded are resistant

Splinter weapons are what those sadistic Dark Eldar use.

Not to my knowledge (though that is based solely on what Darek Eldar are allowed in the TT game, so take it with a grain of salt). They are employed by Callidus Assassins, though. You may also be tinking of the Agoniser; generally either a whip or gauntlet covered in barbs, which uses some kind of energy field to cause extreme and frequently fatal pain to anybody it touches, even through armour.

Displacer fields are the rarest kinds of energy fields. However, she is a Rogue Trader so it is not outside the realm of possibility.

So how long would be a reasonable period for the initial training and then time spent as an Interrogator?

Eisenhorn granduated at eighteen and became an interrogator. He served for four years, but he served on the hot end. Some interrogators serve for quite a bit longer.

I had Gix be in the field for ten years as an interrogator, partially because his mistress didn't like to let the good ones go. Use what sounds good to you. A spectacular peformance in your last mission does help justify a promotion even if you have spent only a little time in the field.

No, that was why it was beautiful. Three different minds working.

The result was something close to optimal though. I have a scene that I want to do between Gix and your character and it wouldn't work unless this scene turned out well.

Agonizers are extremly deadly FYI. TT people kit out their Drakons with agonizers, combat drugs, shadow fields, and another weapon and then go on HTH rampages where they cause unholy amounts of carnage.
