EU opens door to Turkey

Post by Jon »

The EU has offered to begin membership talks with Turkey next year, with 3 October given as a start date.
EU leaders said the aim of the talks - which could take up to 15 years - would be full membership, but Turkey's entry could not be guaranteed

Much as I admire Turkey and their god-dictator Kemal, they've gotta stop the whole "paying imams to proselytize while suppressing Kurds and the Greek Orthodox Church" along with the whole "Northern Cyprus IS TEH WINNAH!" bit.

It needs to be stringent- and it's going to hinge initially on Turkey recognising Cyprus- this will fall through.

It's all part of the long term plan. Before the end of the century we will include everything but the USA and possibly china.

Actually, the EU are the ones being played for suckers: see, while they are busy dicking around trying to get small territorial gains like Turkey, the Russians are secretly preparing to steamroller their way across Europe: The Americans are in on it, and are welcoming the downfall of their economic rival, because the Russians make much worthier adversaries anyway: you know why the Americans are really starting to pull troops out of Europe?

Weep your destruction, Europe, for it is sooner than you think....

Compared to "everything but the USA and possibly China", yes.

I don't think it's that easy to disband the NATO.

Something I wonder about-- EU ministers worry that unbridled Turkish migration will ruin their employment numbers at home, using current events as proof.

But the reason the Turks are migrating to other EU nations is because their economy sucks. Theoretically, if Turkey becomes an EU member, wouldn't their economy improve and the workers more likely to stay home?

But Turkey would be a good addition under any circumstances-- including a non-Christian, non-White country will make the EU seem less like a snooty American country club. Lots of manpower, a large sized Army, and strategic position.

The ethnic strife with the Kurds will be problematic, as well as the border issues... but it can be dealt with. The population of the EU, especailly if Turkey joins, will be large enough to support an all-volunteer army, providing they form a unified military structure. Any bets on when that will happen (remembering full well my own doubts mentioned in another thread! )
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
