SKIDMORE, Mo. -- A 23-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant was killed Thursday and the fetus was taken from her body, authorities said.
Sheriff's deputies were investigating the afternoon killing of the woman and they were searching for the baby, who they believed could have survived.

At eight months? I don't really know much about this, but how much more care could it require than a newborn? Not that a newborn needs negligible care, mind you.
I have images in my mind of maniacally laughing cartoon villans with mad scientist plans. It's probably something fairly uninteresting, though.

No, the original thread talked about the one that happened in Mexico I believe, this happened in Missouri. CNN is reporting that they think they have found the baby in Kansas and that it is alive and so far doing well. DNA tests are pending however.

So... angry... musn't... puke....
At least they caught the murdering cow. And the baby seems to be OK....
I know I should try and feel a little compassion and understanding, considering it seems like the murderer had had a miscarriage... but... I can't.
This is so fucked up it makes me sick.

Chicago (more specifcially, Addision, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago) had a murder/kidnapping of this sort 9 years ago. The relatives of a black man conspired to kill his white girlfriend by cutting her bi-racial baby out of her belly (they didn't bother to kill her first, if I recall correctly) because they felt a white woman didn't deserve to have a colored baby. They also took her slightly older mixed-race toddler with them, but killed her two older children by a white man.
Three people when to jail for murder on that one, and the surviving children are "with relatives" but authorities are mum about who exactly and where. Which is probably a good thing, between vindictive types and the media.

My oldest surviving sister was born at seven months and all they did was keep her in an incubator for warmth and observation for a couple days - no extra oxygen or high-tech medical care required. If she had been born that early 200 years ago she probably would have survived OK as long as they were careful to keep her warm those first few days.
So it really depends on the baby. More specifically, on the baby's lungs. For some reason, my sister was born with lungs more mature than typical for the time of gestation (they don't think it was a midjudgement of conception date - other things, like her skin, had characteristics of a fetus early in the seventh month). Other babies can be born at a full nine months and desparately need intensive medical care.
Reports are they found the baby and she is in good shape, all things considered. At a hospital for observation and check up at last report. She had a very rough start in life, let's hope things will improve for her from here on out.

Killer tracked by IP address
Good work on the part of the police.KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In the end, it wasn't a fingerprint or a blood spatter that led authorities to the woman suspected of strangling a mother-to-be and cutting the baby from her womb.
It was an 11-digit computer code.
Police zeroed in on Lisa Montgomery in the most 21st century of ways, by trolling computer records, examining online message boards and — most important — tracing an IP address, 65.150.168.223, to a computer at her Melvern, Kan., home.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier
