Sounds like it's going to be a patriotic romp meant to stir up inspiring emotions and give people an opportunity to wave the American flag.

Is this project even taking more time then that crappy Lynch movie did for its development? Not that its likely to matter one way or another.

Joy....another patriotic circle-wank. Somehow I don't think it's not going to rake it in at the box offices outside the US.

You could have made the same prediction about "Black Hawk Down" (especially with Bruckheimer's presence), but it turned out to be a great movie. It all depends on the scriptwriter and the director.kheegan wrote:Joy....another patriotic circle-wank. Somehow I don't think it's not going to rake it in at the box offices outside the US.

Yes, but the Somalia SNAFU didn't receive anywhere nearly as much international condemnation as the Fallujah assault did.Darth Wong wrote:You could have made the same prediction about "Black Hawk Down" (especially with Bruckheimer's presence), but it turned out to be a great movie. Well 'Blackhawk Down' was made back before patriotism was the fashion of the day. It might have done so well because of 9/11, but that wasn't the intent. Don't get me wrong, I like war movies, especially the nit and gritty ones, but from the article in question I predict wank fest.Darth Wong wrote:You could have made the same prediction about "Black Hawk Down" (especially with Bruckheimer's presence), but it turned out to be a great movie. Oh yes, I should mention that about two hours ago I got to meet General Tommy Franks. He seemed like a cool guy, he even called me sir.

And I guess they won't include scenes of the soldier who shot and killed that injured insurgent in the mosque....

I think that this one will have a different message than Black Hawk Down. The book that this movie will be based on is being written by Bing West, a former marine. He's quoted in the article as saying, "If America needs a hard job done, the marines will do it, and they won't lose their humanity in the process or any sleep over pulling the trigger. Yes, they are 'the world's most lethal killing machine.' That's what America needs in battle."Darth Wong wrote:You could have made the same prediction about "Black Hawk Down" (especially with Bruckheimer's presence), but it turned out to be a great movie. It sounds like this guy wants to focus more portraying marines as bad-asses. Black Hawk Down focused on the absurdity and chaos of the situation the soldiers were in. I dare say that a similar film about the invasion of Fallujah would be considered unpatriotic.

Yes, it does. I hope they have another scene when a "liberal" tries to argue the sargeant at the demonstration.Julhelm wrote:Reminds me of "The Green Berets" starring John Wayne.

The film will be about the first battle of Fallujah, not the second. There can't be too much rah-rah USA roxorz in a movie about a battle we quit before it was over, thus wasting all the effort that went into it.

On a related subject - did anybody see the BBC News 24 extended report of the battle of Fallujah by that embedded reporter? It was incredible - uncensored language, scenes of a quite shocking nature, chared bodies: it was very harrowing and interesting. I wish more reports were so unique and uncensored.

You sure? The article mentions the first and second battles, but I got the impression that the film will cover both.RedImperator wrote:The film will be about the first battle of Fallujah, not the second. manhunter gives me a headache, and is an atrocity compared to Thomas Harris' "Red Dragon"Joe wrote:Heat was not a Jerry Bruckheimer production.
And did you just say Mann was a bad director?
The Keep is also an atrocity compared to the F. Paul Wilson's Book

Well, I've never seen The Keep, and I won't disagree about Manhunter - it shows its age in a bad way - but those are all from his earlier career! And Heat, Collateral, and Last of the Mohicans are all good movies.
