Oh boy.. so the Temple was not destroyed. Did Palpatine order to make it a memorial or what?

I just don't understand Lucas lately. His "interconnecting" of Prequels and Trilogy would never change the fact the two trilogies are really different. Futile and worthless attempts.

Also, because of that doctored shot the EU gets a trash again, am I correct?

Perhaps the building was just reused for other purposes? Maybe a military building.

I believe it´s stated somewhere that Palpatine is a history buff, just imagine all the fun he could have with the Jedi Archives after all the pesky Jedi are gone!

And in the Hyperspace material it´s said that Anakin leads troops on a "special mission". As far as I know the only battle he participates in is the one at the beginning, so this must be something entirely different. Exterminating Jedi inside the Temple one by one would be a good guess.

I'd have rather Palpatine order an "occasional" turbolaser shot these phallic symbols of the Jedi might from orbit...

just kidding. It'd be fun to slaughter the Jedi.

Then again, curious, does the EU explicitly state the Jedi Temple is destroyed?

Annoyingly of course, the EU post TPM but pre re-release commented many times that Palpy leveled the whole thing and everything associated with it.

But now of course George HAD to move it in, as illogical as it would be to keep standing, because he couldn't bloody resist.

Why exactly is this illogical? Levelling an important source of information that could be important to him on a long-term basis, or simply stimulate his intellect, is more logical somehow?

I see it as similar to the Nazis stealing Jewish riches after they´re all dead.

He is more then capable of removing all the valuable materials from it. The point is that he DESTROYED the Jedi order and erradicated all of their traces. This is abundently clear in the EU, the lengths he went to remove any kind of training materials or information when Luke started to rebuild the order.

LEAVING the Temple there will serve as a constent reminder of the Jedi. Given Courscants population, you don't want to leave something that can serve as a rallying point and memory of the Jedi when you go to such lengths to remove all real memory of them.

No, its like the Nazi's burning down the opposition buildings through Berlin of the communists and other political parties after they take power, to completly and utterly destroy any trace or memory of them. After all the effort Palpitine and Vader expand to anihilate the order, its records, memories and whatever, its rather strange to leave the HQ standing perfectly untouched.

Now there's an idea for a new Jedi Knights-type Lucasarts FPS. You play a Darth Vader on a search and destroy mission for the Emperor in the Jedi Temple immediately after ROTS, where the surviving Jedi are hiding and cowering.

Although i am taking my sources from EU especially in the NJO series we see that the Jedi are thought of as Dangerous and only out tyhere for themsleves.

It could always be a reminder to the population of the Galaxy that who ever stands in his way get Eliminated off the face of the Galaxy. Like a scare Tactic saying that he has defeaten the so called Undefaetable.

While they were in a normally blocked off section of the museum mentioned in the third X-Wing book, Palpatine did leave a whole bunch of Jedi artifacts (lightsabres, statures, medallions, etc) mostly intact, even if somewhat defaced.

Personally, considering how many people treated the Force as hocus-pocus and other such types of parlor tricks, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if somebody (in-universe) thought up of the idea to turn the Jedi Temple into The Place for second-class actors and stage magicians.

Wasn't there meant to have been some sort of former Jedi building Lord Vader took as his residence, due to being an area where the force flowed well (like yoda's cave)?

This thing has always annoyed me.

In Rebel Stand (NJO), it is explicitly stated that the temple was leveled, and in fact they go beneath the rubble that is the remnants of the temple when Nyax finds a well of force energy deep within Coruscant underneath where the Jedi Temple was, sealed beneath some kind of ultradense stone (now, the description of the wall sounded like some kind of magic inpenetrable stone, but it was described by Nyax, who basicly had the intelligence of a child, so it was probably some sort of heavy armor such as durasteel. Whatever it was, it resisted lightsaber strikes).

HOWEVER, in the same series (NJO), a few books later, in Traitor, Jacen (wandering the ruin of Coruscant) finds himself INSIDE THE JEDI TEMPLE, which was apparently not leveled.

This is probably the biggest contradiction (other than minimalism) in the EU.

Hmmm.

The trailer for the Star Wars Episode 3 video game showed Anakin running around slaughtering Jedi in the Jedi Temple, and hurling debris to tear down doors (in the temple).

First of all, the first instance does not say when it was leveled (this is after Coruscant was captured several times) and the second one did have Jacen arriving at the base of the Jedi Temple in ruins, not intacts.

Heh, I completely forgot that, there are actual levels where you get to play Anakin slaughtering Jedi in the Temple.
