Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

Most polarizing. Well, that's true. Way to reward someone whose primary accomplishment is pissing people off and furthering an agenda of regression.

Well has I understand it they chose who they think caused the greatest effect and not always the most postive effect. I could be wrong on that.
While I do not like the guy and think his managment of the Iraq war and occupation is criminal (I mean that in every damn sense of the word), has well has having little more than burning hatred and scorn for his "leadership" in the war on Terror.
Of course I think if we lived in a perfect world a certain Security of Defense would get excaltly what he deserves and no it's not a damn medal.
But all that aside, no one can deny Bush has had a major impact on the world and the effects of his Presidentcy will be felt for decades to come.

No, you're quite correct: That's why the likes of Khomeni, Stalin, and Hitler have been selected for "Person of the Year" in the past...frigidmagi wrote:Well has I understand it they chose who they think caused the greatest effect and not always the most postive effect. I could be wrong on that.

The title person of the year is misleading. it should be "Most Influential of the year"
It prevents confusion.

Nitpick, Rumsfeld did not get the Presidential Medal of Freedom this time around (it was awarded to Tenet, Bremer, and Franks). Rumsfeld got it in 1977, from Gerald Ford.Of course I think if we lived in a perfect world a certain Security of Defense would get excaltly what he deserves and no it's not a damn medal.

The TIME Person of the Year thing is not for the best person of the year, just the person who's had the most effect on the world. I can see Bush being that person.
Heh, it would have been cool though if they had made it Dick Cheney.

Is anyone really surprised, though? I mean, seriously, the title of "most influential" is more appropriate. Everyone's talking about GWB these days, what he's doing or not, and OBL's time in the sun faded.
I hate to say it, but it's true-- GWB is probably the biggest mover and shaker in the world today, love him or hate him...

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

Pretty sure that it is generally not awarded to the same person twice.frigidmagi wrote:We still got about 4 years, wait for it.

Why not give the award to the American President every year? Realistically, save for a Bin Laden type figure emerging again, America's power is so great that its President can yield far more power than anyone else...

Redundancy. The last time Bush got the award was in 2000, even though he's clearly been the most influential person in the world for each of his years in office.ALI_G wrote:Why not give the award to the American President every year? And with good reason, considering the truly despicable depths to which he has sunk in pursuit of money and personal glory.Or better yet, KKKarl Rove, as he is considered on this board.

There's an irony about the Canadian edition of Time's person of the year being a victim of the kind of policies aggressively promoted by the American edition of Time's person of the year.Montcalm wrote:And Here's Canada's Person Of The Year
